Had he been in the film for a longer period of time I likely would have figured it out that it wasn't Jack Black. I think the movie is mediocre, but not flat out bad. Though I agree that Aubrey Plaza is not good in it. Still, it's one of the more tolerable horror movie remakes. It isn't scary, but it isn't boring and it made enough changes that it felt like it's own movie while also being a remake. The Tupac joke is gold and Mark Hamill and the whole A.I. aspect really work for me. That Tupac joke was indeed great.

Slender Man (2018) (First time viewing) Terror Level: Low Well I started October with a fizzle instead of a bang. All this movie has going for it is the visuals. The film is hard to follow. The plot mirrors the insanity that the characters are going through. I think Slender would have been far scarier if we seen only a little bit of him. Everyone knows what he's supposed to look like anyway. Instead the mental chaos our protagonists go through should have been a focus instead. Not that there isn't a lot of that but I think they over estimated the scariness of Slender Man. He should be a stalker who we barely see. 3/10Altered States (1980) (First time viewing) Terror Level: High NOW THIS movie had some freaky effects and imagery. Through the use of psychedelic drugs and water chambers Eddie Jessup is able to turn himself into an ape man. This movie really reminded me of The Fly and they're very similar. Eddie takes his experiments too far to where he metamorphoses himself. But after the ape man stuff I don't like where this movie goes. I don't understand why Eddie's trip should effect things outside his body and the world around him. I'm not really a religious guy so maybe that's why I didn't like it. Religious symbolism and theory are bought up in this film a lot. And I really wanted this to be The Fly movie I never seen but it went in a different direction. I expected the message of the film to be different but it went somewhere else. It's a fun movie to watch and one I want to show my friends. Maybe I'm being too harsh because I didn't get the story I wanted. 6/10.

Saw Ready Or Not at the dollar theater. It was a lot of fun. Great ending.
That same theater will also be showing the original Evil Dead, TCSM, NOES, and Halloween for $5 each. I've already seen the latter four in the theater, but that's a good deal. Especially for TCSM, which is a million times more effective on the big screen.

My first two new viewings are two that eluded me in the 80s; Witchboard and a slasher called Final Exam. So it looks like we have a pretty good turn-out this year. Happy viewing, everyone! I just watched Witchboard... Enjoyed it π

cybajedi If i can make a request...if you have the means, try The Devils Rejects. I saw that you disliked House of 1000 Corpses and i don't blame you...im not overly fond of it myself. But i felt like its sequel, Devils Rejects, fixed every single problem i had with House. If you hate Rejects then theres no point in watching any other Zombie film. You're the second person that's mentioned that The Devils Rejects is a much better movie. I had planned to watch House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects for the challenge until watching the mess that 1000 corpses was. I'll give Devil's a watch based on the feedback, thanks for your input.

I remember House of 1000 Corpses very well. The marketing for that film made it out to be one of the scariest films of all time. Myself and my sister drove like an hour out of town just to see it. All that being said, Devils Rejects is indeed the better film. It's been a long time since I've seen these films but I'll second Marv's recommendation of Devils Rejects being better. My memory tells me that is for sure. Fpr what it's worth though I also liked the Rob Zombie remake of Halloween. Didn't care for his sequel but liked the first.

I just added a shit ton of random horror films to my Hulu watch list. My plan is to watch 3 or 4 of them tomorrow/today.

Just watched Red Lights off the same channel, above average but what a waste of a cast - De Niro working for food again... Yeah I agree. It's Cillian Murphy who makes this watchable rather than De Niro who seemed to be phoning it in. Even Sigourney tries.

Head Count was mostly passable imo. I think it got better reviews tho which surprise me. It doesnβt do anything particularly well. I was looking at this on amazon prime video for a first timer but it's a rental which means paying for it. So would you say that it's worth paying for? I can stretch to a fiver out of my budget and would do so for something passable and just to get the FTV tally up.

It wasnβt anything particularly special. But it did get decent reviews so maybe Iβm one of the few that didnβt care for it.

Yeah I was sitting on the fence on this one beforehand and looking for confirmation really. Thanks for the heads up!

Something doesnβt add up. "Ready Or Not" I guessed he mightβve included that in the equation but IDK. It felt completely separated.

I didn't start off with much enthusiasm this year, maybe once it gets rolling. I'd like to clear out my to-do list of horror movies this year, but some of them seem really bad. ππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππ
