I'm actually really not sure what to think of that.
I really hope that it isn't going to start becoming more and more of a thing where people that have passed away will be brought back to life in Movies.
I mean I get why they have done it with other people in the past but I really think that if they start doing it more and more then it will start becoming disrespectful to the memory, career, and life of those people that have passed away.

I have often thought if this would happen, with the advent of CGI trickery etc. I find it somewhat tantalising and intriguing that past icons can be brought back with visual technology.
Those old staple adages of 'The camera never lies' ( and 'The Customer is always right '' LoL ) are now becomiπg indeed bollocks.........and deader than Bogart and Bacall, Fred and Giπger, Laurel and Hardy etc.....who may now ironically become more 'alive'.
The only dowπsides will be the potential abuse and naff vehicle driving of said icons.....and the inevitable wrangling over copyright and royalties .
"He WAS my father.....I've had a blood test !!" Etc etc

Inevitable, but I'm not paying for the stunt.

Guess it's a logical move from the de-aging of actors and the Mustang commercial several years ago with Steve McQueen.

Come back to the five-and-dime, Jimmy Dean.

I'm surprised they haven't done this with Marilyn Monroe yet. She's usually been the #1 victim of tasteless exploitation for over 50 years.

I've been waiting for them to try this for a few years now. It's inevitable.

The work involved in doing this is massive. For one thing, the person has been dead for 60 years plus so it means all the archival material has to come from that era. They want the modern film version to be as close as possible but in HD, will they have access to pictures that show his skin pores? Will they be able to match his eyelash length etc? What about his performance quirks?
Every little thing counts because the less accurate they are, the more people will be able to tell it isn't him, especially if they are familiar with his work. For MM it is even harder because a woman portrait is more difficult since they have to be more subtle with facial detail, and then making her move in a way that is close to the actual person is more of a challenge. I think they would need to find someone fairly close in the face-and do a merge to pull it off. Al the work for nothing if the voice is off.
The Peter Cushing head was ok in some shots but not 100% convincing, and the voice was all wrong to make it even remotely believable. Plus the actor was taller than the actual Cushing. Selling a movie on a digital mask of a dead actor seems like just another way Hollywood is cannibalizing itself for a lack of new blood. If they were sincere about finding new appealing actors they wouldn't need tricks like this.

Grotesque. It's him, but it's not him because he's dead. But it's him. It's almost literally the essence of soulless film making.
I wonder if belated CGI characters are eligible for awards.
