The combine is low-key one of the most boring and stupid times in the NFL calendar. I see some leviathan-sized OT got hurt running the 40-yard dash. Remind me why they felt it important to test an offensive tackle on how fast he can run in a straight line? All this combine stuff feels like it's run and promoted by Frogs. "Woo-hoo! Prospect just recorded the highest-ever vertical jump! Hall of Fame here he comes!!" The good ol underwear Olympics. I personally love this title of year because I love the NFL Draft and offseason team building. That said, the combine is very misleading. Its mostly there so teams can interview and meet these players in person and get medical checks on guys who may have medical issues like a Penix or Latu. Certain drills are important for certain players. 40 yard is good for a WR/CB/RB. No Lineman is ever going to be running in a straight line in game. The 3 cone however if I remember correctly is important to judge an olineman agility to be quick on his feet and follow/react to a rusher. The broad jump I just don't understand why that is even tested for anyone? These drills tend to just drop players stock more than anything. Got a corner who was previously looked at as a day 1 pick? Runs a 4.6 forty? Kiss that goodbye. Its why most of these top tier players don't test. They can only hurt themselves. All they gotta say is, "watch my tape". Xavier Worthy a WR broke the 40 record at 4.21. However everybody knew he was fast. It doesn't change the fact that he is small and weighs like 160 pounds. Don't think that changes his stock at all. The combine drills can also turn a so-so prospect into a high 1st Round pick. See Jamarcus Russell for example. Scouts got a stiffy over his strength and ignored the facts that he wasn't built like an NFL QB and he was a horses ass

That I think was more Al Davis than anything. He was always over drafting the guys that blew up the combine and ran fast. Rarely ever did they pan out yet he'd continue to do it. Never seemed to learn his lesson.

Mike Evans staying in Tampa Bay on a 2 year deal. The WR free agency market looks like ass now that Higgins got tagged and Evans resigned. Gabe Davis now looking like the best one available.

Never seemed to learn his lesson. No doubt that Al had lost the plot in his later years. He took so many long shots with the 1st pick and the all bombed. Todd Marinovich, Sebastian Janikowski (a good kicker, but 17th overall?), Darrius Heyward-Bey, Rolando McClain, JaMarcus. Some things was bad luck. I thought Robert Gallery, the OT from Iowa, was a sure thing in 2004. Raiders took him and let Larry Fitzgerald, Phillip Rivers, Sean Taylor and Ben Roethlisberger on the board.
The great Raiders team were built on rejects and draft gambles. Rejects like Darryl Lamonica, George Blanda, Ted Hendricks, John Matuzek, Lyle Alzado and draft gambles like Fred Bilitnikoff, Cliff Branch, Gene Upshaw, Art Shell, Ken Stabler, Ray Guy. When he couldn't find these doiamonds in the rough and worried more about lawsuits, the Raiders went to Hell and seem bent on staying there.

Broncos letting Wilson go Two teams in less than two years have decided that they'd rather have $111 million in dead cap than have Russell Wilson on their team.

Reportedly, the Steelers aren't interested in Wilson, Fields, Cousins, or Mayfield.
They can't seriously be starting Mason Rudolph.

Looks like the Giants are losing Saquon. He'd be a great fit with Houston, among others.

According to Diana Russini I believe, the interest in Justin Fields isn't quite what the Bears or the media expected. It was rumored to be at least a 2nd round pick with maybe a day 3 pick as a sweetener. Does this mean he isn't even going to get a 2nd? Speculation is that interest might increase after Kirk Cousins signs and teams look to Fields as a backup plan.
Listened to Extra Point Taken last night and Shael Kapadia or Ben Solak one of them speculated on Russell Wilson not signing with a team unless there is an injury to a QB. That he will going into next season unsigned. I find that hard to believe. He can sign somewhere at the minimum for a year. I think the Falcons or Raiders make a lot of sense or a team that drafts JJ McCarthy (if its not Denver) so McCarthy can sit for a year.
Early rumors are that McCarthy could go 4th overall in a trade scenario with Arizona. Denver and Minnesota being the popular candidates for the trade up. Minnesota tried to trade up for Richardson last year unsuccessfully.

Looks like the Giants are losing Saquon. He'd be a great fit with Houston, among others. A shame. Running backs are tough to assign that much value to, but he deserves a deal. If only they offered him the multi-year deal after he turned it down again we wouldn't be in this mess. Now the only consistent positive on offense for the Giants is out and there's basically nothing to build on. I guess we will have to accept starting over from scratch AGAIN next year.

Reportedly, the Steelers aren't interested in Wilson, Fields, Cousins, or Mayfield. They can't seriously be starting Mason Rudolph. As long as we aren't seriously starting Kenny Pickett. But, yeah, I see a real situation where we're sitting here post draft and Pittsburgh has the worst quarterback room in the AFC.

This isn't directly an NFL thing, but we don't have an offseason college football thread. Oregon got a quarterback commit from Akili Smith Jr.
