How about: 1 ) "Street Racing Movies" F&F 2F2F F&F:TD and 2 ) "Complete Stupidity" 4 5 6 7 8 I actually agree with you on this. I was actually a fan of the first film when it came out because I've always loved cars. I was never a huge fan of the "ricer" movement in the early 2000's, but liked Dom's Charger. The 2nd two films were okay as they followed a similar formula for the most part. The last group of films are just completely over the top. They are stupid, but I do like watching them (guilty pleasures). |

I basically see the series like this...
-first three movies = old style (i.e. racing oriented)
-fourth movie = transitional period between old style and new style.
-fifth movie on forward = new style (i.e. less racing oriented and just more of a huge blockbuster/over-the-top type of action movies but they just try to revolve it around cars so it keeps the basic theme of the series going.)
with all of that said i prefer the series like this...
1.The Fast and the Furious (2001) - 7/10
2.Fast Five (2011)
3.Fast & Furious (2009) - 6-6.5/10
4.Furious Seven (2015)
-.Fast & Furious 6 (2013)
6.The Fate of the Furious (2017) - 6/10
7.2 Fast 2 Furious (2003)
8.The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006) - 5.5-6/10
the 1st/5th are the stand out's of the series and within my Top 196 movies in general. but the 4th/6th/7th movies are within my Top 246 movies in general.
p.s. Ludacris favorite movie of the entire series is the 5th movie as i heard him say this himself not long ago on TV. so while he was basically advertising the 8th movie he said the 5th movie is his favorite for real.

Definitely #2 for me. Especially after the Super Bowl ad for part 7 with the car going between two skyscrapers- I wanna say at least 30 stories up(!). That qualifies as the fantasy genre. And I happened to check a list of the most expensive movies of all time- seeing a Fast and Furious movie (after number 4) is now not a surprise.
