During this week's episode of Legends made wonder about Gideon as a possible villain for Legends; especially after it turned out that Zari's whole experience was Gideon jerking her around.
There's nothing outright suspicious or malevolent about Gideon that I can point to; though this could reconcile how it is Eobard would later have a copy when he's stuck in the past during and prior to season 1 of The Flash.
She's become pretty flippant, almost adversarial at times; and where the "legends" seem to be borderline incompetent, this episode in particular would suggest that Gideon is anything but. I mean, she was able to transfer Zari's consciousness into her system and force her to live an undisclosed length of time, that was at the very least long enough to read Mick's thousand page romance novel, and learn to play the violin, while constricted to one hour increments. She probably never got to sleep really, the closest she got was the sedative, which Gideon apparently decided she would eventually build a tolerance to; and if she tried to sleep, she'd get less than an hour at a stretch. So Gideon basically subjected Zari to torture; forcing her to go from her perspective without sleep for days, probably weeks, maybe even months or years, all to brow beat her into staying on the ship.
Could Gideon have done this to anyone else?
They've made mention of her trying to manipulate Mick's neurology. At one point Sara was in a coma and left in Gideon's care; really anyone on the ship for any extended period could have been given the Matrix treatment. Ray seems like he's had a lobotomy since leaving Arrow, and somehow none of them could adjust to returning to the real world after Rip decommissioned the Wave Rider - something he only did after being away from Gideon's influence for five years; during which time he assembles a team of actually trained and competent time agents.
At one point we even saw Rip have an unusually intimate connection to Gideon when his mind is supposedly being restored last year.
Now again, I'm not saying this is definitely something that should or will happen, but I think it would be a fun development if the first three or four seasons of the series gets totally turned on it's head, by revealing that the biggest bad of all has been under their nose and manipulating them all along the way. Maybe Rip never had a family, and then once Gideon was free and the Time Masters out of the way, and Gideon has free control over the Idiots of Yesterday, so long Rip, don't need him anymore; even though he keeps coming back like a bad penny. Of course the "legends" go wherever Gideon tells them history needs to be fixed, but how would any of them know if she were lying?
Of course Nate might, since he somehow discerned changes to history that he would have been apart of, which conveniently helped retrieve Gideon and the rest of her stooges.
And what of her supposed failed attempts to alter Mick's brain? The man who was Chronos suddenly can't be brainwashed, and also forgets all that training. Too bad, since that might come in handy identifying anyone trying to bend history to their will....
