The Burton one has its moments but otherwise is forgettable. The makeup is flatout amazing though. I remember really hating a later one I think it was called 'Battle for the Planet of the Apes'?

in general i think it's ok. it's watchable scifi. it is visually cool. i really like the ending. it should have been better. original is a classic.

For whatever absurd reason I really like the second one (Beneath). It’s the only one that really looks and feels like the original, right down to James Franciscus playing Charlton Heston, doing a William Shatner impression. (Now that’s confusing…) It’s not a good movie, but it’s fun. Sorta.
If I’m remembering correctly, the third one (Escape) is usually considered the best after the original? There were parts I liked in that, but all in all it just doesn’t hang together, I thought. Oddly enough, I hardly recall Conquest, though I know I’ve seen it.
The Burton one stinks, and I say that as a definite Burton fan. It’s so choppy that, in many places, it feels less like a movie and more like a collection of images, held together by battle sequences. Heston, for his one big scene, is great to see in it, though.

I gotta give it up to the Burton remake for the fantastic ape make-up. Whatever its flaws, the movie was on point with the look of the ape characters.

Beneath TPOTA is not simply enjoyable, it is a brilliant film which is very well written and acted.
