I wouldn't be opposed to this 'cause a lot of people think Reign is the big villain of the season and to change it to Pestilence would be something a lot of us never saw coming and if she becomes as powerful as she is said to be in the future and Supergirl couldn't defeat her later like Saturn Girl said in the preview for next week maybe she could end up being a powerful foe to face in the final episode and they wouldn't have to go with the predictable ending of Sam killing herself to save everybody from Reign. With Lena working on a cure now maybe she could end up being successful or they could still go with Reign being separated from Sam to fight Supergirl in her true form.

Could Pestilence Be the Real Villain of 'Supergirl' Season 3?
Supergirl has never been that adept in creating villains. However, season 3's central baddie, Reign, has charged into the show like a charismatic wrecking ball. She's everything a Supergirl antagonist needs. Reign is fierce, terrifying and (due to her "secret identity" of Sam) highly sympathetic.
Sam and Reign, but especially the former, have been such great additions to Supergirl that fans have been clamoring for a way to keep Kara's newest BFF around outside the current arc. The closer season 3 gets to its endgame, the more that looks like a possibility, as it seems Reign isn't even the main villain of the season.
Supergirl Recap: The Truth Comes out for Mon-El and Sam>>>
The Plague Is Coming
Reign was Supergirl's introduction to the Worldkillers and their supposed leader. However, Reign appears to be the least threatening and powerful of the Worldkillers. Or at the very least, she's second best. Supergirl has already introduced the second of the Worldkillers, Purity, who is a lot like a Kryptonian-ish version of Arrow's Black Siren with a sonic scream, as well as a latent telepathic ability to read people's emotions. Yet everything about Purity and Reign pales in comparison to the third and final Worldkiller, Pestilence.
Pestilence hasn't even properly appeared on Supergirl and already she seems capable of far more horrifying things than anything that Reign and Purity can do. Pestilence's arrival has rivers turning into blood and birds falling from the sky. According to Mon-El, Pestilence eventually gains the ability to morph into Blight, an entity that destroyed the world in the future. Supergirl is aggressively building up to Pestilence and it can't just be for her to play second, or even third fiddle, to Reign.
It would be the definition of anticlimax for Supergirl to finally introduce Pestilence and to have her be shoved off to the side like Purity. Purity being a supporting player was fine as she appeared rather suddenly. Pestilence, though, has received all this build-up and is the very reason the Legion of Super Heroes traveled back from the future to the present. Pestilence, not Reign, is the real threat in the Legion's eyes and it's only reasonable that she'll become the same for Team Supergirl.
Rivers don't turn red to herald a secondary antagonist. That's the move of the biggest of Big Bads.
The 'Redemption' of Sam
Regardless if Pestilence being the premiere threat is the direction Supergirl does take, it's the one they should take. Reign has been a great villain in the sense that she's an immovable force that Kara can't possibly handle alone. Yet she's not the most dynamic of characters.
Reign is fun to watch and oddly charming (in a murderous sociopath type of way) but she's not compelling. Reign is meant to be pure evil and focused on nothing but destruction. Reign is only interesting because of Sam. Supergirl's focus should really be on Sam, not Reign, for the rest of the season. Now that Lena (and Sam) know the truth about her, it's much more interesting to have the story focused on this supposed cure than more mayhem with Reign and the Worldkillers. Supergirl can have any alien villain cause destruction but Reign is unique because of the Sam angle.
Should Lena Cure Sam of Reign on Supergirl?>>>
Supergirl can go the expected route. Sam/Reign can somehow break out of the containment center that Lena has built for her, whether by her own wiles or with the help of Purity and Pestilence. Lena can tell Team Supergirl, or they'll find out for themselves, that Sam and Reign share one body. Then at the very last second a cure will be created to fix Sam (and presumably the rest of the Worldkillers.)
Yet it would far more interesting and unexpected for Lena to really cure Sam as soon as possible and for the rest of the season be devoted to Pestilence. Maybe Pestilence isn't just different from all the Worldkillers in power level. Maybe in her human persona she's not as kind and gentle as Sam or Purity's Julia Freeman. Pestilence could be rotten and it's only her powers that make her a threat worthy of Supergirl's attention, but she always was a villain. Whatever the show needs to do to supplant Reign with Pestilence, they should do it. The bottom line is that would be in Supergirl's best interest to start pivoting away from Reign and towards Pestilence.
But do you agree? Would you like to see Reign be cured? Will Pestilence be the real threat of this season? Is that the direction Supergirl seems to be heading? Is it the direction they should head?
