He reminds me of a villain from a comic book movie. Maybe they tried too hard to make him scary. The reason I bring this up is because the first official trailer for It recently premiered at SXSW. I can't find it online but I came across the images which I've seen before. Just wondered what everyone else thought.

Why is he wearing a dress? He looks like a little sissy. I would laugh at him like he was a clown and then pie him in the face.

Looks like a standard villain or superhero for the era.

I've started reading his books in high school and I just fell in love. That, however, makes me a big critic when it comes to these movies being messed up. I'm really worried about this film, but I hope I'm proven wrong. That is a bad poster, but this one is my least favorite. What is this? He's peaking out a gutter? It looks terrible.

He looks like Ronald McDonald's special needs brother. I'll probably skip this entirely unless user reviews are stellar.

Here is the problem with this 'updated' Pennywise the clown from 'It"
In the 1990 version with Tim Curry was a normal clown. Tim Curry was creepy, not the make up. Nothing about his 'costume' suggests he's a bad person or evil. That's the scary part. It's the man that is creepy, he just so happens to be dressed as a clown.
They took away the very thing that makes him scary in the original. The 1990 Pennywise would lure kids in, that freaks me the 'f' out. Kids would run away from this shady 2017 version. Its the innocence of a clown that makes it more demented that he's doing terrible things. A dark, bloody, dirty, evil looking clown 'would' do those things, its not unassuming or sick.
An innocent icon such as a clown doing sick and twisted things is what makes Pennywise all the more freaky. They missed the mark BIG TIME on this one. They didn't get it at all.

I want to reiterate my previous point with pictures. These are the many facial expressions he makes. His demeanor changes with the slight angle of his facial expressions. Photo 1, you see a happy clown. Photo 2, you see a shady clown, the gif at the bottom, you see scary clown. It's not his Costume or Make up that is scary, it's the fact that its an innocent icon such as a 'clown' that is doing demented things. They didn't get why it was so scary at all for this remake.

Tim Curry mastered it. As previously mentioned what was so scary about him was that he wasn't trying to be scary he just "was" It was his ability to appear as a friendly clown before he turned evil and the way he thought that was so funny.... I love IT, I am also a SK fan and so will watch this version but I have a feeling I will always think of Tim Curry when I re read IT or someone mentions Pennywises name

Trying too hard to be scary, imo it just looks like a paedophile. The only thing this movie needed to improve was the cheesy acting of the original from the adults, Pennywise was perfect previously. I really hope this doesn't start a load of King remakes, particularly the classics.

I couldn't have said it any better. Except, no clown in normal.

I've actually yet to see any of the IT adaptions and was looking forward to the new one but i'm not so sure now. The book is brilliant and the pics of Tim Curry is fairly close to what i imagined, i'm interested to see the 1990 version now

Tim Curry's neutral expressions are creepy enough. He doesn't need the overdone clown smile. The new Pennywise looks like a cliche creepy clown.

I was a teen when I saw it. Pennywise was the best thing about the adaptation. I'm sure that it is likely better than the 1990's The Stand miniseries. God, everything was so awful about that rendition. I'm worried about requesting a new adaptation of The Stand out of fear that they will f**k that up too. SOOOO BAD

SOOOO BAD I thought it did okay for a TV miniseries. I'm partial to Gary Sinise, though. I'd be curious what well-budgeted movie adaption would be like. I'm nervous about The Dark Tower film adaption. Hollywood has a bad record with King's stories, and that is his magnum opus

That's probably correct. he should maybe look a bit strange but appealing to kids at first and then as things move along he becomes more disturbing. this new Pennywise looks like they're trying to hard to make him look evil and failing miserably.

You hit the nail on the head. The remake seems too 'try hard' with the design of Pennywise and I'm sure it'll be grimdark just to seem edgier or what passes for 'mature' or 'adult' these days.
