It is pretty amazing how Fox was never able to realize the potential of the X-men. It would look even worse if Ryan Reynolds hadn't made Deadpool for them. Fox actually started out with a known franchise that was the top selling comic post 1980 while Marvel had to build up B list characters into the MCU. Marvel then proceeded to lap Fox. $ =/= quality. Plus, paid critics and artificial boosters invalidate any direct comparisons anyway. Because they did so well with Deadpool mach 1, didnt they? Merc with a mouth couldn't talk. Dude, if they were doing it right, the sales would be similar or more Adjusted for inflation Thor-$206,246,700 Captain America: The First Avenger -$204,271,500 Ant-Man -$200,382,200 The Incredible Hulk -$172,357,600 -origin movies for characters few knew or cared about outside fanboys. (Ok Hulk had a tv show in the 1970s)- Come in ahead of X-Men: First Class- $166,937,000 X-Men: Apocalypse- $163,532,300 The Wolverine-$155,104,400 Thor: The Dark World-$227,121,100, a movie usually rated the worst of the MCU titles-beats X-Men Origins: Wolverine-$221,357,500. The Most Popular X-Man second to a character non comicbook fans were not aware of prior to the MCU movies. A character deep in the Marvel roster beat the movie you all rave about- Doctor Strange-$242,945,100 Logan -$234,717,000 Again, the MOST POPULAR CHARACTER ridden into the ground by Fox. Infinity War beat him in 3 days. No one was supposed to care Captain America, a dated WWII propoganda character to many modern minds but Captain America: The Winter Soldier -$286,373,800 X-Men $267,905,600 X-Men: Days of Future Past-$258,260,900 The best grossing title Fox has- Deadpool-$388,249,600 Comes in behind- Marvel's The Avengers- $705,769,500 Black Panther -$688,009,500 Avengers: Age of Ultron $491,377,100 Iron Man 3-$448,436,600 Captain America: Civil War-$429,213,000 Iron Man -$407,095,000 Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 -$399,848,900 The anti MCU crowd likes to say Disney has ruined Marvel. It seems more like Fox is the one that doesn't get the characters

The X-men were a known property that Fox never got above 250m domestic. I think a lot of the Fox movie suck and hate their Wolverine and Friends approach, but others like them. Obviously not as many as liked the MCU movies though. Somehow Marvel made Cap, Iron Man, Thor, and Black Panther more popular than the X-men. The X-men deserve better. They should be huge.

Would especially love to see Storm and Rogue done properly. Can't wait to see the MCU Cyclops either. I'm also wondering if they will ditch the "male model" version of Logan that Fox used. Jackman is awesome and all, but not so true to the spirit of the character. Too bad the MCU can't use McKellen and Stewart (too old )....Fox nailed that casting.

How does liking a stupid comic book make one sophisticated? I tended to go for the smaller books. Ka-Zar Defenders Thor Dr Strange Ghost Rider The only X-Man I liked the stupid writers could never figure out-Angel. Cut his damned wings off to make him tough! Jerks. But go on & suckle at that mass market teat. Settle for the pap they sell to the masses. I always felt the smaller titles were more personal.

You're attempting some degree of coolness or authority and then recommending I read Ka-Zar and other shitty obscure Marvel books? Okay, grandma. Thanks for the tip.

I like a Denny's Grand Slam Slugger. I do not plan on ever trying their spagetti as I assume I can get much better at the hole-in-the-wall Italian joint I go to. I like the smaller titles because they don't have to appeal to the masses. Ka-Zar was having something of a mid-life crisis in the 80s book I read which appealed to my 20-something head. I found it relatable You might as well. Up to you. I preferred the Defenders because it leaned supernatural (Valkyrie, Son of Satan, etc). The Avengers were day to the Defenders' night. They were flawed. Nighthawk was a Cap villain at one time. I didn't care for the X-Men fake racism theme they beat us over the head with.

There's prolly local cons in your area to connect with these types of people and books.

They should be huge. 13/19 MCU movies have gotten over $250 million domestically. That's 68% of the MCU. Only 1/10 X-Men films made it over $250 million domestic, and that's Deadpool. 10% of X-Men grossed over $250 million. The second highest grossing X-Men film (Days of Future Past) was $16 million short of $250 million.
