Hmm, might be something I would be interested in. Yeah the first one was good and pretty fresh. Didn't really like the ending but it was a lean horror movie.

Wasn't expecting a sequel TBH, but since I enjoyed the first movie, I'll be optimistic with this one.

I was just looking at the upcoming release schedule and I was shocked that lo and behold, there's gonna be sequel to Unfriended. Wonder if the release date is going to stay the same or if it is just a placeholder. If the former, they really need to drop a trailer soon.

This ^ I'd wager that only the people who are active here and other big message boards like r/movies are aware of this sequel, which isn't a huge population if you think about it. And even in the case of me, I like to think I've got a good handle of what's coming, but I was truly surprised there was no big word on a sequel months before and no trailer yet with a release two months out. I'd be that half of the people who have seen Unfriended probably aren't aware there's going to be a sequel.

I saw Unfriended in theatres and if I remember correctly there was a sequel announced. according to Wikipedia Unfriended Dark Web was shot in secret under the working title Unfriended: Game Night Wikipedia also says this is going to be a stand alone sequel

hey it wasnt bad. Certainly more fun and better than Equalizer 2. Till about an hour in I was honestly Loving it. They kinda switched the premise from super natural to "actual evil" and I have to say they did play with that well, till about an hour in. Then for whatever stupid reason became unrealistic, which is Such a Shame, because till then it was totally relatable and I was buying all of it. But even with the messy second half I still enjoyed it. 5.5/10 from me. solid average horror movie, had it not been for the last 30 minutes it would have been closer to 7. just stay real people, whats so hard about that? the reality is scary enough.

i'm debating between this and Equalizer. I'll probably go with equalizer because Fuqua is the bomb. in any case, i'm sure they are both much better than Thanks for Listening (god awful film).

I liked it. Had some feelings of Nic Cage's 8MM and a little Sinister (at least, the first half of that movie). To me, it stayed in the grounded realm and not the supernatural one. Also was more fitting of its "gimmick presentation." Sure some things are embellished but the main takeaway is that the Dark Web is frightening and nothing to play with. Lean and mean, and the characters here are easier to root for.

Sometimes the characters end up being so annoying, I find myself rooting the bad guys.

But the River did look kinda cool

From the beginning, it was clear that UNFRIENDED had a supernatural villain. UNFRIENDED PART 2: DARK WEB cleverly plays with that idea by making the antagonist ambiguous for most of the running time. The audience wonders if we're once again dealing with a ghost (or something like that) or incredibly skillful hackers. There are enough clues to make either option believable. Is that enough to say that this sequel is better? No, I'm afraid that kind of unpredictability needs to amount to something that's worth the running time. It's eventually revealed that they are hackers, but it's hard to buy their existence. No matter the resources and number of members in your circle, there's no way to do/know all these things. At least not that fast. You'd think that their borderline omnipresence would make DAMON HORTON (one of the protagonist's friends) realize that he shouldn't reveal the trap he's setting for them (recording their activity and printing coordinates that will help the police locate their victims), but he stupidly does so. When the movie is about to end, it's revealed that the hackers set a trap too. Before the movie even started, the main characters had been randomly(?) chosen to be framed for crimes they didn't commit. They're all psychologically tortured and killed. It's not tragic; it's meanspirited and empty. The main characters of the original suffered the same fate, but the context was different. They were responsible for the ghost's death, so seeing their downspiral made for good drama. The "computer screen point of view" format is still being used well as a tension tool, although the "The bubble with the 3 dots appears and then disappears, meaning that the person on the other end of the chat began writing a message but changed their mind" thing gets repetitive. The performances are OK, except for Colin Woodell's, which is hit-or-miss. MATIAS O'BRIEN (the protagonist) is told by AMAYA DESOTO (his deaf girlfriend) that at times it's hard to read his lips and that it's better for him to send her messages. He claims that he makes an effort to communicate with her... even though his mouth repeatedly goes out of the webcam's frame. ------------------------------------- You can read comments of other movies in my blog.
