A prequel to the HARRY POTTER series, where magical creatures are accidentally freed in New York. Like real-life animals, they do dangerous things based on instinct, but they can also behave under the right circumstances. The only one who can tame them is wizard NEWT SCAMANDER. His peers don't think much of him, but that's OK. He can always find a job in a circus. He teams up with TINA GOLDSTEIN (a witch who works for the Magical Congress of the United States of America or MACUSA) and JACOB KOWALSKI (a No-Maj or Muggle (non-magical person) who wants to be a baker). Most movies that take place in the past allude historical events and/or pop culture. That can be a gimmick depending on the relevance to the plot. This movie doesn't do that despite taking place in the 1920s because, as a prequel, it needed to take place in the past. It's not that the setting isn't important; it's that the makers weren't focused on making a period piece. ------------------------------------- You can read the full review in my blog (in English, in Spanish or in Italian) and/or watch the video review:
