I like FIRE OVER ENGLAND, WUTHERING HEIGHTS, RICHARD III, and SPARTACUS (I remember in Middle School adopting his Crassus "By the Gods!" expression as my own, figuring that speaking fictional gods' name in vain was a way out from the commandment-breaking "Oh my God!"), but two obscure roles I would mention is his Minister Wiite in NICHOLAS AND ALEXANDRA, where he chews up Nicholas for his mishandling of the "Bloody Sunday" affair ("You ask!?") and his last scene monologue: walking around the ignorant Nicholas and war council, warning them in vain about the destruction the war will bring to them ("Not one of you will be alive when this war is over..."). And his Nicodemus in JESUS OF NAZARETH, quoting scripture during the Crucifixion. And I did grow up on CLASH OF THE TITANS.

Great tribute to a magnificent artist. Thanks so much. There's only one Olivier.

In everything except for Incheon (1981). I've read about that film but never had the opportunity to watch it. Sounds like the production was utter hell and then having the "Moonies" financing it must have been fun as well.

I read in the earlier discussions that Oliver was one of the choices for Don Corleone, but as we all know lost to Brando. He got to play a Head of the Family in this rather forgotten movie, The Betsy 1978. While the movie was panned by the critics, Olivier himself only had fond memories making it, especially working with Robert Duvall, whom he admired. He also enjoyed that the making him look young make-up worked much better and took lesser time to put on than the making him look older make-up looked worse and took longer time to put on.
