Why are people obsessed with seeing Oliver with a beard? Would it make any difference to his character or make the show better in any way? Will it have any affect on the story? Probably not. Will it add to the quality of bringing to life a fictional character? Arguably, to some very degree, sure. And is that at least part of the point? It's an affectation, without question, but it'd be like saying what's the big deal if Captain Picard had hair or if Santa lost a little weight? It may not be the end of the world, but their conventional depictions adds familiarity and makes them feel more real.

It does make it feel more real when you see a character you have been reading about in comic books for a long time brought to screen and they look that way and it doesn't hurt to have characters look similar to what they did in their source material and some longtime Green Arrow fans want to see Green Arrow with the goatee and have been very disappointed the two live action versions we have had of the character haven't had them. I personally hope when we get Barbara Gordon/ Batgirl on screen she has red hair 'cause her red hair has always been a part of her character and people call her red. I support diversity but I can see why some fans get annoyed when the character they get in live action looks completely different than the one they are used to and I think you can have diversity but still keep some important aspects of the character's look and Saturn Girl was one the showrunners of Supergirl failed with and as an Amy Jackson fan it wasn't Amy getting the role that was the problem for me but the fact they didn't have her look more like Saturn Girl and wear the costume and colours.

For me it's when they do away with a trademark aspect of a character, something that makes them stand out a little, such as Barbara or MJ being red heads, if race doesn't actually play a major aspect to the character I don't care if they alter that, but like on Supergirl the why I disliked James wasn't due to him being black but him being a big guy, made worse when they hired Tyler to be Superman because a Jimmy bigger than Superman is just WRONG, also makes no sense for Jimmy to call him the big guy in that instance, the idea from the 90/00's of Chris Rock playing Jimmy Olsen I think would work as he can still play all the other characteristics of Jimmy Olsen, but the guy who plays "James" doesn't.
Like in the FC X-Men films Xavier having hair for 3 films is fine so long as they got to the bald look and they did, him being in a wheelchair however needed to happen by the end of FC, or like how Jackman is much larger than Wolverine is meant to be, didn't matter because he carried the character off and kept much of the other visual keys to the character, what hurt is Cyclops being a shrimp, he's meant to be the leader of the team why is he the tiniest, it works for Wolverine because he's a little guy whose 10ft of bad ass in a 5ft body, the guy who holds his temple all the time on the other hand looks like a puss if needs to stand on an apple box to kiss his lady.

I totally agree with you about James Olsen and think it would have been better if they had gone with a more comedic version of the character like they had Justin Whalin play in ‘Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman’ but they made James so serious I think it hurt the character in the long run and it looks kinda silly seeing him as the CEO of CatCo and as the Guardian and thinking this is Jimmy Olsen when he acts nothing like him and is only Olsen in name but we see what they have done with Kara in the show too and they have made her a very different character than she is in the majority of ‘Supergirl comic books and much more like Clark Kent as I have pointed out on here before so if they are going to change the main character this much we probably shouldn’t be surprised over James.
The ‘Arrowverse’ has a problem with changing a lot of characters to they are nothing like they are in the comic books and Black Canary has always been an example of that but Killer frost and Vibe are too and I have been reading some of the earliest appearances of vibe and he is a completely different character than the one we have in 'The Flash' now and he started out as a member of the Justice League but also had a gang and he was known for being the first member of the Justice League to be killed off. A lot of comic book movies and TV shows would look very different now if they were true to the source material or the latest incarnations in the comic books but I think sometimes they make the right decision changing things and don't think they would have been as well received if they didn't. Movies and TV shows like 'Catwoman' and 'Birds of Prey' represent the worst changes they have made to characters though and a 'Catwoman' movie without Selina Kyle as the title character should have never been a thing.
I have heard a number of the 'X-Men' movies have been cancelled 'cause they are being rebooted and I am looking forward to seeing what they do with the X Men in the MCU and hopefully we get a proper version of Rogue and Gambit. I might skip the 'Dark Phoenix' movie 'cause I remember that was supposed to be a 2 parter movie and if it ends continued we will never find out what happens after it and they will be going out like Season 5 of 'Angel' and I hate when shows get cancelled and end continued. I think it is good they are wrapping it up and looking back I think they should have rebooted it after the third movie or made a fourth movie which brought back Cyclops (since I don't remember it ever being officially confirmed he was dead) and had the addition of Gambit. 3 was disappointing but we have had a number of sequels in Horror franchises that have been awful and the following movies have been far better received and loved by fans so I think the 'X Men' could have been fixed but fox obviously cared more about Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. I didn't hate movies like 'First Class', 'Days of Future Past' and 'Apocalypse' but I don't think they should have been made and they should have gone back to the lineup in the Animated Show with new actors.

Well, I am not saying they were horrible movies but I just would have preferred a reboot with the most popular lineup or an 'X Men 4' that fixed a lot of the problems instead of a series of prequels with other characters 'cause we barely got to see most of the characters in the original Trilogy 'cause they spent so much time focusing on Wolverine. I still think an 'X Men 4' could have worked as I mentioned above but Hollywood would rather throw things away now and start from scratch than fix them.

My only problem with the X-Men prequels is Mystique being a hero. It was the one thing that didn't fit in with the earlier films and didn't benefit the character.

So did I miss an episode, or are they calling that unkempt beard Oliver had in prison a "goatee"?

My only problem with the X-Men prequels is Mystique being a hero. It was the one thing that didn't fit in with the earlier films and didn't benefit the character. Mystique being made into a hero does seem like a strange call but I think it has more to do with her being played by Jennifer Lawrence and Fox wanting to use Jennifer’s popularity to get more fans to watch the movie than the character herself. The heads of Fox never had a lot of faith in the ‘X Men’ characters outside of Wolverine which is one of the main reasons why after ‘X Men 3’ Hugh Jackman as Wolverine become their main focus, ‘Gambit’ wasn’t given a big part in the movies like he should have had and the ‘Gambit’ solo movie never went through. What I always found weird with their use of Mystique in the prequel/ altered timeline movies was why they didn’t have Roque as Mystique’s adopted daughter when that was something that went way, way back to when Mystique was a Carol Danvers (Ms Marvel) villain and it would have fitted perfectly in the ‘X Men’ films and given Rebecca Romijn’s Mystique a far more personal reason to go after the X-Men wanting her daughter back than just being another one of Magneto’s henchmen.
They could have said at the start of the first movie Rogue was on the run from her Mother who was a criminal and wanted her to use her powers for evil and to hurt people but Rogue didn’t want to do that. Hopefully Marvel bring Rogue back to the front and centre this time and have her fully powered.

Because Fox were still pretending the series belonged in the same continuity, even though FC ends with Xavier being paralyzed where as I think he could still walk in the flashbacks of Last Stand.

Have you heard the latest news about the 'X Men' Dazz? I read on Screenrant earlier today Marvel have no plans to use the X Men in their Marvel Cinematic Universe or make more X Men movies anytime in the near future and it could be years before we see the X Men in live action again and that is really disappointing 'cause I was hoping we would get a rebooted X Men movie with the likes of Cyclops, Wolverine, Storm, Rogue, Gambit, Beast, Jean, Jubilee, Nightcrawler, Emma Frost, Morph etc at least in the next 2-3 years but that sadly doesn't appear to be happening now. Hopefully they keep 'The Gifted' going and renew it for another season since if they aren't going to use the 'X Men' universe they shouldn't ruin a show that is using some of the characters. I also thought they would have wanted to make a new 'Fantastic Four' or 'Silver Surfer' movie straight away but that is off the table which is surprising since they are announcing all these plans for other Fox movie franchises.

Doesn't surprise me, you want some separation between the two series, and F4 needs time for people to get Fan4stic 's awful taste out of their mouths, I doubt F4 wont be introduced by the end of Phase 4 as that's just too perfect, but also as I have mentioned before F4 and as such Silver Surfer are not so cut and dry IP's as X-Men as Fox doesn't own the movie rights, technically they just own distribution rights though I think they just pay to use the rights regardless, but the specific deal means Fox had exclusivity whilst the other company maintained ownership, so Marvel likely needs to figure out a specific deal with the actual rights holders, hence the delay.
As for The Gifted I agree if Disney are not going to use the characters in the films keep the show going, let it be the bridge between the old X-Men and the new ones, it's separate enough not to be tied directly to the Fox films, and it's clearly not in the MCU so let it be, though I am not sure if the show is a big enough draw for the amount it supposedly costs, but now Disney owns that shit again including all merch rights it's an established show with lots of characters and now an even bigger roster to play with, it could be more viable for Disney as a way to get more of their IP's into the public, but either way I think it deserves a S3 even a truncated one just so we aren't left on that cliffhanger.
But back to the films I say be optimistic...now aint this a turn of events...Phase 4 is apparently a 5 year plan, so far I think they have announced 6 films for Phase 4 which if it's a 5 year plan at Marvel's typical pace we qould be looking at 12-15 films, meaning atleast half have yet to be announced so we could get X-Men and F4 by the end of Phase 4, I mean 5 years in entertainment terms is a very long time so when Feige says it'll be a long time before we see X-Men he could be telling the truth but misleading us at the same time, as is his way, cheeky little monkey.

Yeah. You make a good point about wanting some separation between the two series Dazz and with a movie adaption of 'The Fantastic Four' they not only need time for people to forgot about the previous three adaptions but to come up with a script for 'The Fantastic Four' that is right and fans will like or it will just flop like the last one did. I think with the right writers they can make a good adaption of 'The Fantastic Four' and they should bring on some of the writers who have written their comic books in the past but if they rush it then it is likely we won't get that. With the 'X Men' though the series hasn't had the same bad luck as 'The Fantastic Four' has had and there are many people who have liked the movies so I thought it would be easier for Marvel adapting them and I am just hoping we finally Rogue back fully powered along with Gambit.
I hope Disney keep ‘The Gifted’ going ‘cause I have been enjoying that show so far and it is annoying when shows end continued and don’t get a proper endings and I have seen and talked to other fans who want a third season. I think it is separate enough not to be tied to the Fox movies too and I have said before on other threads I haven’t seen anything in ‘The Gifted’ that makes me believe it takes place in that same universe except for them saying the 'X Men' and that is more likely to be tied to the comic books and if they ended up getting Anna Paquin in to play Rogue which was rumoured for a while especially with her husband being in the show it would have been connected but as far as I ca tell there is nothing connecting it now. Did you see the final episode of Season 2? With what I have heard about Marvel's upcoming movie slate after the success of 'Captain Marvel' more female superheroes are going to be brought up soon and some sites are saying Ms Marvel is next but I would like to see SpiderGwen, Spider Woman, She Hulk, Elsa Bloodstone and Shanna the She Devil before her. If Marvel work with Sony they can use SpiderGwen and Spider Woman and SpiderGwen is their biggest selling female character now with comic book sales in the past decade.

I went to a local comic-con this past weekend and there were several women doing cosplay as SpiderGwen and the costumes wear made out of that ultra tight stuff that they make yoga pants or leggings (or whatever they're called) out of and they looked great! They were better than 90% of bulky restrictive looking costumes in the MCU.
Hollywood could take some lessons.

They were better than 90% of bulky restrictive looking costumes in the MCU. Hollywood could take some lessons. I think some of that comes down to function over aesthetics. It's one thing to look like the character stepped off the pages of a comic book in apropos of no other context, but it's something else entirely when you inject a story and character motivation and have a character say, "I'm going to do this superhero thing and wear a costumes that's very form fitting and serves no other purpose than looks cool." Which isn't to say that some of the movie or tv adaptations of costumes has had some level of "cool" factor at play, of course, but I think a really good example would be Arrow and Oliver's costume in season 4, which hued closer to his comic book look; notably with the sleeveless look, but it looked kind of weird and more importantly it quickly became apparent that an obvious flaw with this costume was the lack of protection his arms had in a fight and they even had a line to that affect the following season when they revamped his costume again to include sleeves. There's also a very fine line between body positivity, especially for female characters, and appearing to sexualize or exploit a female character and make it about their looks. Another example to that end would be Elizabeth Olsen, who talked about how she'd like to cover up a bit more with her costume, seeing how she's the only main character in the marvel movies showing cleavage and there hasn't been much in the way of an evolution of her costume the way some of the others have changed. And while her costume is far more conservative than her comic book counterpart, she has a very good point, especially comparing her costume to any of the others, particularly other women.

However, to me, it makes sense to go with the very form fitting costume for a character like a spider person because they have to have an extreme level of flexibility and agility. Thats' my biggest complaint with the leathery costumes we see so often now. They look too restrictive. I swear Ben Affleck could not even lift his arms in his Batman suit.

And.... The Gifted has been cancelled... tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/more-tv-news/the-gifted-and-rel-canceled-by-fox/?fbclid=IwAR3q-lHk5KtS8FCSzexsgRbpfAsPVFAIyxlXSUkQF2QmEbqCEw2tEfz7PcQYeah, there is no way The Gifted will continue since Marvel Studios is taking over and recreating everything X-Men related. Thanks for posting that stargazer1682 . That is very disappointing and as taylorfirst1 pointed out I knew Marvel were planning on rebuilding the 'X Men' Universe from scratch but Kevin Feige has said that isn't going to happen for sometime so I think it was really slack of Disney cancelling the show and not giving it one last season to wrap things up. From what I have heard they have also cancelled 'Legion' and a lot of the Marvel shows have been cancelled now and 'The Runaways' recently got renewed and 'Cloak and Dagger' is returning soon but apart from those two 'Marvel's Agents of SHIELD' is the only one still going. It is surprising given how successful Marvel have been with Marvel their track record with TV Shows has been so bad compared to DC and they have 'Hawkfire' and 'Scarlet Witch' TV Shows coming but eerrr they have already been mostly played out in the movies and I would rather see new characters that haven't been on screen yet or proper 'X Men' and 'Fantastic Four' TV Shows instead of movies like we had 'Superman' and 'Batman' in the past. Those could be awesome with the right writers and if you look back at some of the old articles about Fox developing 'X Men' shows before they announced 'The Gifted' and 'Legion' the way they were talking they were making a proper 'X Men' TV Show and they could have done that and still kept doing the movies and it would have finally given us a chance to see a lot of the other X Men that haven't been on screen yet.
I will say I think Sony's TV Spiderverse has the biggest chances of having the most successful Marvel TV Shows ever made. They are in a position now where they can launch a TV Universe similar to what DC has with the Arrowverse and have TV Shows of SpiderGwen, Spider-Man (Miles Morales), Spider Woman, The Prowler, Silk, Venom, Black Cat, Silver Sable, Spider-Man 2099, Spider-Man Noir, Nightwatch etc and instead of doing what DC and Marvel have largely done not limit their characters to movies only and they have a heap of villains they can use too. They just need the right writers. With the right writers it could be hugely successful on TV.
