It’s sometimes difficult to remember that Yoda is actually a puppet. Puppets over CGI any day… I saw TESB in the theater in 1980, as a kid, and I fell in love with Yoda... it was amazing at how real they made him, and the puppet still holds up visually even today! Did you know that Yoda was created with the help of Jim Henson, who created the Muppets (Kermit The Frog)? They tried using a puppet for Yoda in Episode I: The Phantom Menace, but it looked terrible... For the rest of the prequel films, they did him as CGI... Later on, they went back, and redid him in Episode I as a CGI... It does looks far better.... Somehow though, That puppet that was made 20 years earlier for TESB, was just perfect... If Lucas had turned him into a CGI Character for his Special Editions, I would have personally gone and strangled him. LOL! you might want to cool it with the spoilers Nalkarj has not seen any of the STAR WARS films

But I don’t think MCDemuth has revealed that much in the way of spoilers. Hey, I know it’s not Ackbar, but Leia just yelled, “IT’S A TRAP!”

Leia was only a princess on her planet. There was indeed a Galactic Republic. So each planet has its own government, but there’s a Galactic Republic that oversees smaller kingdoms? I guess that’s what I’m confused about. Is the Republic like the UN? Yes, I’m overanalyzing this. I just got confused because everyone calls her “princess.”

There were actual changes to the story in some of the other ones? Yes. Originally, Han just shot Greedo in cold blood at the Cantina... Then Han shot Greedo after Greedo Missed... Now they shoot at the same time... This changed the nature of his character... At the end of ROTJ, they changed how "characters" become Force Ghosts... The monster at the beginning was the “Wampa”? It looked fine, but I would have liked to have seen “less is more” (an approach with which I usually agree). Yes, The "Wampa" attacked and captured Luke, and hung Luke upside down in the cave... Originally, we just saw an arm or a shoulder or the legs of the "Wampa" moving in the cave. Now, we see the whole creature munching on some animal with bloody flesh on his mouth. The shots of Luke, are still the same though...

I would ignore her title, it is irrelevant.

Actually, the Republic itself is irrelevant.
The rebels just hate the Empire.

I checked with Uncle Save-a-Coin and he didn’t have the original version, so this one’s the new version, but I’m hoping that’s OK for a new viewer… I think TESB, has the least objectionable "Special Edition" changes of the three original films... There were very little "story" changes in this one. I think the most dramatic change was the "Emperor Scene" with The Emperor & Darth Vader talking about Luke Skywalker and even that one wasn't too different from the original... It was more about changing the visual look of The Emperor
The rest of the changes were more about special effect changes to either, clean up previous special effects shots that were not as good as they should have been, or it was to improve visuals, such as making Cloud City, look less like a "submarine"... Personally, I enjoyed most of these changes.
The Wampa scene at the beginning of the film, is questionable though. Some people like the concept of "Less is more scary", but Lucas wanted to see more of the creature...
But at least it doesn't change the story, which is what most fans hated about the Special Editions. Boba Fett's voice though... Salzmank, you HAVE to look up a video showing Boba Fett's original voice to see what you're missing!

Nalkarj has not seen any of the STAR WARS films Umm... I thought he was watching them right now... at least that is what his posts seem to suggest... you might want to cool it with the spoilers I've tried not to give any plot details away, without using the spoiler tag, for what he hasn't seen yet... But If I have, then I'm sorry. I'll just stop... But others here have been pointing out what's to come, like the Bounty Hunters, and they should stop too...

So I just got to the most famous Star Wars moment, the one even I always knew: “I am your father!”
And the funny thing is, even though I knew it going in, I still felt a jolt of surprise when Vader said it, if only because it’s really a well-set-up twist. There’s ample foreshadowing in-movie, but I also don’t think it’s predictable. I kinda wish I hadn’t known it…

I didn't mean to sound harsh, but even mentioning that Yoda is in the prequels is a pretty big spoiler, don't you think?

Right, MCDemuth, I’m watching The Empire Strikes Back right now… Saw Star Wars earlier for the first time, wrote down my thoughts in this thread. I think President Ackbar™ means I’d never seen any Star Wars before this, though. I’d known about the “Han shot first” thing, but when I wrote story-changes, I meant, say, major alterations to the plot. None of those, right?

Pop in Return of the Jedi immediately after you finish!!!!!!!!!#%* After it took me so long just to watch this? I’m kinda exhausted and ready for bed at the moment; I’d only meant to see half of this, anyway, but got wrapped up in it. What a great final (well, penultimate) shot. Is it a perfect film? Probably not, but I just had a big smile on my face after seeing it. You were right, this was the Star Wars epic I’d been expecting when I watched the first one. Really a well-made, charming, goofy, fun kind of movie. Will chime in some more tomorrow—thanks for the comments, everyone!

I guess it could be interpreted as such... and I apologize if mentioning that, was received that way, but... Wasn't Yoda in the Theatrical Trailers for those movies? Do you consider Theatrical Trailers to be spoilers?
