I haven't seen it yet but it's not much of a surprise. I think Disney is slowly killing the franchise. Of course, I'll really believe what I'm saying if Part IX has poor results. I still think Disney is riding on a Y Wing fighter on a long road to Hell. I would have much preferred an Obi Wan backstory to be quite honest. Or maybe a Captain Needa backstory... Well apparently they're working on the Obi-Wan story.

As for why Solo is flopping... I'd guess it's a combination of factors already mentioned. Primarily, this wasn't a movie that needed to be made or that there was much demand for. How many people actually cared to know how Han Solo got his name? How many were jonesing to see how he met Chewbacca? Especially given that the EU stuff had already done it all. The fan backlash / boycott thing probably played a part, but I could only guess how big a part. Not that much, would be my guess. And the troubled production reports probably put a lot of people off too. But mostly, the trailers didn't really sell it as something that was a must-see. I suspect a lot of people were like "Meh, I'll catch it on blu-ray or just torrent it." Franchise fatigue? No, not really. As somebody said, you only get Franchise fatigue if the movies aren't good. And so far the Disney Star Wars movies haven't been great.Competition from Infinity War / Deadpool 2? Maybe, some, but I doubt it was that big a factor. This part of your post doesn't make any sense. "Franchise fatigue? No, not really." So you're saying it's not franchise fatigue. "As somebody said, you only get Franchise fatigue if the movies aren't good." OK. "And so far the Disney Star Wars movies haven't been great." If franchise fatigue happens when the movies aren't good, and the movies aren't good, then how is that NOT franchise fatigue?

Yeah, that one got away from me somewhere along the way, sorry about that. I was meaning to say they haven't been great movies, but they haven't been bad either. I don't think the Star Wars franchise has gained the kind of reputation that the DC ones have, for instance.

Reminds me of MCU where each character's standalones are really in their own genres - action, war, sci-fi, comedy, etc. Obi-Wan will be more Force orientated & mystical than young gun Solo finding his opening salvos. I do think they should stick to December releases though. Or try August for the standalones.

Twas purely hubris to keep its May date between all these other releases.

Lack of interest. Disney shouldn't be making so many Star Wars film all at once. The 1.5 year gap between Solo and Episode IX, can only be a good thing at this point.
