Hello chaps!
I haven't seen Solo and in all probability never will HOWEVER I have been thrilled by reading the comments on here as to the hilarious reveal of how Han came to be called "Solo".
I was laughing as I thought surely someone in the script by numbers group must have held their hand up and said "er, guys this is a terrible idea" but got shot down in a hail storm of primate excrement by the Disney typewriter monkeys... But what's YOUR thoughts, what would have been better for this crucial plot point which just HAD to be in the film?
I would have gone with this:-
Any advance on that?

I would have gone with this:- Han, the loner, is seen throughout the film only working alone, only taking care of himself. HOWEVER near the climax, whilst he is making off with the loot, he sees Chewie being tortured! He has a choice - take care of himself, because that after all is what he's best at! - OR help his new found buddy... Anywayz he chooses to help his buddy! He drops the loot and helps Chewie escape - the two of them take off together in the Falcon, with Chewie giving off a roar which which Han translates for us the viewers - "Yeah buddy, I guess I ain't so "SOLO" any more! Then a little looney tunes circle would appear around Han as he gave a little shrug. La Fin. Any advance on that? Hey. I have nothing against your thread. I just disagree with the whole premise. Why the hell did Disney feel compelled to explain Han's last name? Beyond the basic understanding that it indicated he was selfish and mostly looked out for himself, I never cared. I certainly never expected a Star Wars film to explain it.

I'm just questioning whether we could come up with anything even more ridiculous... Actually just spotted that I missed saying in my premise that, earlier on in proceedings, we'd need to have some side characters saying "who is that dude?", "Well all anyone knows is that his name is Han and he does everything Alone - Han Solo they call him". We need that for the Chewie hug / not so Solo now ending to have maximum emotional gravitas.

I'm sorry? HAN: Plus, Han Duo was already taken. I was thinking of that one because I'm always with Chewie.

Han is in an Empire prison camp. Being the street smart whippersnapper that he is, he challenges the guards to a game of limbo for his freedom. The clumsy guards in their stormtrooper gear fail miserably. It's Han's turn. The entire camp is chanting "How low can you go, how low can you go" as Han goes lower and lower. He wins!!! The crowd of prisoners cheer as the music soars. One guard, in awe of what he's witnessed, says "My Force...he went...so...low. So low." Han turns to the camera and "I like the sound of that".

It's the Corleone moment from The Godfather Part II... a surname doled by the Empire for recruitment. It's fine.

It's his last name from birth. ^^^THIS^^^ I'll agree that this little bit was unnecessary. I guess they were trying to do an Ellis Island type thing with the refugees from other countries coming to the US and having their last names either misappropriated or just outright disregarded.
