Wouldn't the Gideons want you to have it? And besides, who reads them anyway?

Wouldn't the Gideons want you to have it? And besides, who reads them anyway? A legal question is: who has title to that particular book? Did the Gideons ask permission to leave the book in the room? Did they just leave 200 copies at the front desk and the cleaning crew put them in the rooms? Did the Gideons give it to the hotel and it belongs to the hotel (so you are stealing from the hotel)? Does the hotel really want it or to they consider it trash? Did the Gideons abandon the book so it belongs to anyone who wants it?
Has anyone ever given the bible to the bell-hop and said, "please get this trash out of here?"
Has any hotel ever said, "No thank you" to the Gideons.
I've been in a hotel with the Book of Mormon in the drawer. I wonder if Mormons (or any other bible beater) simply leaves one behind whenever they happen to stay in a hotel/motel.

Yes, the Gideons have permission to leave Bibles in hotel rooms, as do all religious groups have permission to leave their scriptures in hotel rooms.

Seems to me it's stealing unless people are invited to take them home. Would the hotel have extras to replace the ones taken since other guests may wish to read the good book?

Yes, but it's okay to use the pages to roll your cigarettes.

What if I steal it, but hollow it out to put a gun inside? God likes guns (according to Republicans) so it should be fine, right?

One of the ways people identify their property is to write their name on it. When I borrow books from the library it says it's the property of Richmond Public Libraries on it somewhere. If you check you might find something similar on Bibles in hotel rooms. You might have a few software programs that you can use for free as long as you don't remove the copyright notice. One of the reasons music has been so easy to listen to with duplication technology is that there is no way you can steal credit for it. It is obviously the Beatles, or Toscanini or whoever.

If its okay to take the towels and the TV, then I'm sure it's okay to take the Bible.

If I didn't have a Bible, I would just download one. They're free and my conscious is clean.

Wait a sec. So they replace the bibles every 6 years no matter what shape they are in? Which may explain why they are never worn out looking. Either they were recently replaced or else no one bothered with it. If that is the case, why not take it if they are going to throw it away or hopefully recycle it anyway. The Gideons are a bunch of strange ducks.

Well heck, I'll have to start checking them. The only thing I have ever found in a hotel bible was a lame fictional sex story written by a girl who got it on with a couple of black men.
