I think I'm with you on The Quiet Man and Darby O'Gill, salzmank. But I love almost everything mentioned here, as well as some not mentioned - the sillier films from the forties, like Little Nellie Kelly, among others. I would also add John Sayles' film, The Secret of Roan Innish (1994). Happy St. Patrick's Day to all, in memory of my dear brother, who marched in full regalia and with great joy in his hometown St. Pat's parade every year, and who loved this blessing which I give to him now: "May the road rise to meet you, may the wind be ever at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, and the rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand."

I love Darby O'Gill and the Little People! It's one of the rare films I can call to mind that works well for not only St. Paddy's Day, but also for Halloween, thanks to the Banshee and the Death Coach. Brr...their scenes still scare the pants off me.
