Any thoughts on this? It has its moments but overall I think it was a pretty lackluster adaptation of a very scary book. Fred Gwynne was great however.
Apparently there's a new version coming soon.

Doesn't hold up imo: You got the old guy, aka Herman Munster who goes ahead and shows the dad where the burial place is and what not...even though he doesn't want him to use it. I assume it didn't happen that way in the book because that wouldn't make sense either ight?

The book implies that he was sort of under the spell of the burial ground, when he initially reveals it to the dad. The movie didn't really convey that so it just comes off as nonsensical.

They certainly kept the grim and bleak tone of the book; it was creepy, it was gruesome, and generally it was a faithful adaptation. But of course, it was nowhere nearly as scary as the book and certain aspects were omitted. Still, I liked it.
I am kinda curious as to how the new version will be handled.

I liked it better than most of the King adaptations I've seen; not a reader of his work, just as a viewer.

My favorite King novel. I like the movie. . .and the little blonde boy freaks me out.

Pet Sematary (1989) is a creepy movie with many great horror elements, but some of it isn't written in a very coherent way.
