A block heater warms an engine to increase the chances that the engine will start as well as warm up the vehicle faster than it normally would in extremely cold weather.
The most common type is an electric heating element in the cylinder block, connected through a power cord often routed through the vehicle's grille.

Well? Just Curious...
My current car does not, but then, my car isn't the most expensive model, either...
The reason why I am asking is this is because...
Many years ago, I took one of my earlier cars that I owned to a car dealership to have maintenance work done on it...
While I waited, I took a look at some of the new cars that were for sale on the lot... I noticed that some cars had heated windows, heated mirrors, ETC, and even heated seats. But NONE of them had an Engine Block Heater in them...
I couldn't believe it!
I remember when I was a kid, and my Dad was in the US Air Force, stationed at Minot AFB, ND... all the parking spaces on base there had electrical outlets, so Engine Block Heaters could be plugged in, during the Winter Time.
All four of the cars my parent's bought in North Dakota, had them!
It makes no sense, that people would pay all that extra money for heated seats, and yet, car companies don't include block heaters as part of the package... If it is that cold that you need to heat seats, there is a good chance that the car won't start in the freezing cold of winter...
Well, I guess their butts will be nice and warm while they wait for a tow truck to come and get them. LOL!
I guess people have gotten so spoiled, that they need have to have a warm butt when driving their car...
I remember getting into my parent's Mid-1970s Chevrolet Impala that had (Plastic or Vinyl?) seats during the winter time. The seat was like a block of ice. We would put a blanket on it, so it wouldn't be so cold, and would be more comfortable.... We also needed the blanket during the summer too, because the seats would be scorching hot!
Thank Goodness, every car my parents bought after that, and all the cars I have owned, have had cloth seats.
