I can't say that this program doesn't have its entertainment value, whether in the presentation of ancient astronaut theory (which I've always found intriguing) or in just listening to the smug pronouncements of the bad-hair guy, the guy with the Jerry Seinfeld voice, or Eric von Daniken. Yet, the suggestion that every single unexplained phenomenon in the world or human artistic or scientific advancement is the result of alien meddling gets tiresome after awhile, especially in light of the complete lack of evidence for many of these "theories." You can play a drinking game based on how many times the phrase "if so" is uttered by the narrator.

Joking aside, I've watched a few episodes and I agree with your assessment of the show. It's like they think humans are incapable of doing anything on their own, though the people that made so many wonderful monuments in the past, would disagree. Have they mentioned Gobekli Tepi yet?

I enjoy most of the episodes... especially the ones about the Ancient Megalithic Structures...
Sadly, too many people, get hung up on the ALIEN concept, and it clouds their judgement... While it is true, the show tends to push the Extra-Terrestrial angle. probably too much... Viewers should approach the show with the idea that they are referring to aliens with a LOWER CASE "a", as in "Illegal Aliens"... which means "not a part of our culture"... or in this case, perhaps, "Not part of our known history".
And it always irks me that people forget the Caveat that is featured on the screen before every episode involving a new THEORY... "What IF It Were True?"
Listen... when Mainstream Historians say, that "humans were incapable of building these massive ancient megalithic structures"... Then you have ask, "Then WHO Did?" I guess that means it has to be Aliens, because there is no other answer... Or is there?
How about an ancient advanced culture, like the people of Atlantis? It's widely known that extinction level events have happened in the past... Why can't this have happened too?
As for "no evidence"... Our bulldozers of today would rust away over several thousand years, and who knows what is still buried under desert sand, polar glaciers, and lying at the bottom of the ocean floor... Believe it or not there are many places on Earth that we have yet to fully explore. And hasn't the area around the Eqyptian Pyramids only been about 30% explored?... And how many ancient libraries have been destroyed over the centuries? Who really knows what knowledge and history was lost in those...
Really, most of the episodes are just trying to find some kind of an answer, or at the very least, get the scientific community to open their minds and realize the world didn't come into existence, 6,000 years ago!
Yes, there are some episodes, that really do seem to have coming from the minds of insane... No doubt about those... But, I think more people should give this "ALIEN" thing, a break, and take each episode one at a time, and not label them as all bad, because of some of the few...
Just because we went to the Moon, doesn't mean that there is nothing more to learn... In Fact, it seems much of what the world knew even back in 1969, is now considered obsolete knowledge... 50 years from now, we probably will still be re-writing the history books of today.
And some of what the show is discussing, may just be proven true...

I agree that there are a lot of things that we can't explain about ancient mega structures, but since reading Graham Hancock's books, I do think that there have been civilizations a lot earlier than mainstream archaeologists are willing to admit to. There are so many things we can't replicate, even with today's technology, such as the pyramids and Baalbek. By the way, I don't rule out that our planet was visited by 'aliens', I just don't agree that they are the only answer to the puzzles of the past.

There are so many things we can't replicate, even with today's technology, such as the pyramids and Baalbek. Well when I really think about how mainstream historians say how ancient peoples built these ancient megalithic structures, I have to laugh... 1.) Let's spend every single day, over the next 25 years... 2.) Carving out... Not just ONE, but THOUSANDS... of multi-Ton Blocks from this quarry... 3.) And we will move them to a construction site, over a hundred miles away, across rivers and over rocky terrain... 4.) And we will need to use trees as rollers to move them, which probably will be crushed from the weight of the Blocks... 5.) And we will have to have the tree rollers brought to any altitude where trees don't grow... 6.) And then we will need to build a ramp, that rivals the project of building a pyramid itself, just to get the blocks up to the top of the construction site... 7.) And then we will need to lift these blocks into their final, perfect position... 8.) By having an entire community of people and their livestock pulling on just ONE block... 9.) Using primitive ropes and wooden pulleys which can't take the strain... And 10.) EACH block may still need a final carving, to get it into the perfect shape, so there won't be any gaps between the stones... 11.) All with the use of stone age tools. (Okay, perhaps Bronze Age, but they are not really up to the enormous task either) And people think the "Alien" Theory is nonsense... Clearly, some unknown ancient tools or ancient knowledge was used back then, that was lost to history, And it had to come from somewhere... By the way, I don't rule out that our planet was visited by 'aliens', I just don't agree that they are the only answer to the puzzles of the past. That's about were I am on the subject. As I tried to imply, I wish the show would take a more balanced approach to the material they present on the show and just say something like this: " We have found no evidence that the local people were capable of building these monuments based on the tools and techniques that we believe were available to them at the time, and so, something alien (lowercase "A") must have been involved here. Could it Be Extra-Terrestrials? Quite possibly, and these are the reasons why we think so..." Interestingly... One of the statements that the show has made on several occasions, that I find quite interesting, is when they claim A leader of a culture says "That his people did not build it... It was the Gods that built it!"... WTF? If my people spent 25 years building a Pyramid, I would certainly give my people credit for it... So why would anyone say that the "Gods" built it? But clearly, if true, these "Gods" were more advanced than they were. So who were they?

As you stated, the ramp would be as great an undertaking as the pyramid itself. I've been to the pyramids and standing under one is a humbling experience, one that no amount of numbers can prepare you for. I find it a little silly that current history puts our civilization back only five thousand years. Gobekli Tepi has been a slap in the face to that so called 'fact'. The planet is billions of years old. How can we possibly say, with any certainty, that there weren't civilizations that have come and gone over such a great expanse of time?

Seriously? There is no f'ing way, that the SMALLER block could be dragged a hundred miles away over rocky terrain with primitive ropes, and tree rollers... And how would you get it across a river? NOW... try moving a thousand more just like it! And then you still have to lift all of them into their final precise position on your monument... And we still haven't even figured out, HOW, they cut those massively huge blocks loose from the bedrock in the first place. Did they stick some giant butter knife underneath the block to cut it free? LOL! A Mile-Long Construction Ramp? The Ninth Wonder of the Ancient World? No. Just...No. No builder in there right mind would ever do that!

Looking at the pictures of the base of what became the Temple of Jupiter, it is clear that the base is from a much earlier period. I t boggles the mind how they were able to move such massive stones.

Never seen it.
But I don't have to see it to know its a piece of shit. This show made the History Channel into a joke.
Modern idiots refuse to believe that the ancients were capable of anything. Just because they didn't have the advanced tech of today doesn't mean they weren't just as intelligent and creative. There is ample explanation for how the ancient wonders were built.
Why did they spend twenty years building the pyramids? (As asked above) Because they could! That's why! Human beings have always expended resources and energy and massive amounts of time into vanity projects. We still do today! It is and always has been a cornerstone of civilization. And don't forget the religious and political significance of these ancient undertakings.
Yes, the pyramids were built by Egyptians. Not fucking aliens. And not mythical Aquamen from Atlantis.

You have to see it; it’s hilarious. I think it’s all the silliest crock propagated in a long time, and it probably is, more than anything, responsible for turning the History Channel into a big joke. But, boy, is it fun in its silliness. The editing, the ridiculous pseudoscientists who serve as talking heads (plus random inserts of actual scientists and historians who, conveniently, never mention a thing about aliens), and Giorgio Tsoukalos! Giorgio’s hair’s existence singlehandedly proves his theory. He is, without a doubt, a being from outer-space. No doubt in my mind. But it is delightfully dotty, mindless programming. I just like watching it to laugh, take my mind off whatever may be going on during a day.

It rates 1/10 as a serious documentary, but rates 10/10 for unintentional comedy value.

You have to see Ancient Aliens to believe how laughable it is. If only it stuck with aliens building the pyramids, it wouldn't be so ridiculous. Later episodes try to attribute literally everything to aliens, from Japanese Samurai swords to Einstein's theory of relativity. There's an episode that speculates that Merlin the magician was a Bigfoot.
