Worked: Donnie Yen K2SO Vader slaying rebels the space battle at the end Mon Mothma Did Not Work: the endless fanservice, references, and cameos the rest of the protagonists CG Tarkin and Leia the dull first half token white British villain - don't have enough of those Actually the guy playing Krennic is Australian. Did he retain his Aussie accent in the film?

One of the things I didn't like: The Emperor's Royal Guards hanging out with Vader. GL has been on record I think that X-Wings & TIE Fighters would not be used for such terrestrial battles. Blame that one on JJ Abrams though because I read around TFA that for him, SW includes those ships, logic & practicality be damned. So yeah... one cornerstone of the Disney era already solid: X-Wings & TIE Fighters galore. No more special bombers or skiffs or keeping the X-Wings & TIEs in space where they were designed to go. Ground battles of Hoth, Endor, & all the rest from I-VI were given a multitude of ships. Now we're watching movies with our favourite toys from 1979 flying around. lols

Really the only stuff that didn't work for me were the OT character cameos. The guys from Mos Eisley walking by was a fun moment, no need to take it any further than that. Tarkin looked awful in my opinion, and the Vader stuff was lame. Vader using puns? And the final Vader video game sequence was badass but really felt tacked on and forced.
Pretty much everything else was awesome. The central characters each brought something fresh to the table and killing them off was a bold move that really gave the movie emotional weight. It's probably my favorite film amongst all SW films, even if it isn't the quintessential Star Wars experience.
