I'm bored so I thought I'd try a poll here. Recently I've started watching the 2012 TMNT series and have been enjoying it. It amazes me that this franchise had put out three series and all have been quite successful. Supposedly another is on the way and it wouldn't surprise me at this point if it does well too. So which of the three thus far do you think is the best? Vote and post your reasoning, I'm quite interested to hear what others think of this franchise.

Since the thread asked about the best I would easily say the 2003 series, which was very impressive in both animation and story, and I think it is one of my favorite of the early 00s animated action TV shows of that time and hoped that the 2007 movie would be done in the same animated way, continuing with that universe/characters.
The 2012 series I have never seen, as it looked a little too "children friendly" but I do have only heard positive things about it, from other Turtles fans enjoying the 2003 and 1987 shows, so I might have to come back to that later on.
In the vote poll section it says favorite and not best, and since I grew up with the 1987-1996 series, I just had to vote on that, because of nostalgia and all that. It is without a doubt a much weaker/sillier written show than the more "dark" and serious 2003 version, but I think the original show had its strenght in not just nostalgia but having a very "lively" New York, with a great atmospheric synth-score and some very good animation as well, even though as the show went on, probably a bit too far, it looked more cheaper and the stories was getting very tiredsome. When they ended up in europe I lost interest and thought it was at its very best during the first seasons. Re-watching it as an adult, it do of course help out that it did contain April O'Neil in her alltime classic yellow and very tight jumpsuit, one which I will never get tired of.

^Didn't mean to imply a difference between best and favorite but ultimately people can vote however they like. For me, my favorite is always the best!😉

Truth be told, I've only seen some episodes of each series, but not all from any. I guess I'll go with the 1987 cartoon, though the 2003 one is a close second.

For me, my favorite is always the best!😉 Wasn't meant as any kind of criticism towards you, just me talking out loud to myself. I am just used to put a difference between favorites and best, but I do agree that a lot of my favorite movies, are also the ones I would categorize as some of the best that I have seen.

I voted for the original 1987 show, mostly for nostalgia reasons, but in a lot of ways the 2003 one is better.

Isn't there more than 3 of them?

Isn't there more than 3 of them? I mentioned in the op that a new series was coming, which is out now. Even if the fourth series had premiered before I made this, it would still have been too soon to compare it to the others. Oh yeah, there was also that live action show in the 90s...we don't talk about that one.

For some reason I thought it had been rebooted twice in the 2010's.

2003. I thought it had the best animation and storytelling.

I take it you were born too late to experience the highs of Turtlemania (circa 1988-1992) then? The Ninja Turtles were icons to people my age when I was about 5 or 6 years old.

Objectively speaking, I regard the 2003 as the best produced. The turtles themselves were more rounded characters, their distinct personality traits coming to the fore; Utrom Shredder was a genuinely intimidating foe and the story-lines were more complex. It was, in short, a more sophisticated series.
The 1987, while often cheesy and rather childish by comparison, is the one I grew up on. The theme tune is iconic and it will always hold a special place in my heart.
I can't stand the look of the 2012 series. The CGI animation just look off. It's not a series that I feel I could ever connect with.

I went for the 2003 version. While they made Shredder way too powerful and mysterious, it had lots of interesting action and locales and the best production values of the three. I couldn't stand to watch the original because it simply didn't look or sound good. The most recent one has its good points but it is CG so it has to reuse a lot of sets and the character animation suffers from being CG and the design isn't good enough to make up for it.
