There was some question as to whether this would happen, but "Solo" has passed "The Empire Strikes Back" at the domestic box office. That's not counting the 1982 reissue, the 1997 special edition, or nearly 40 years of ticket price inflation. But with "Solo" losing 53% of its theaters tomorrow, it's unlikely to beat the 35 year old box office performance of "Return of the Jedi".

You think Solo compares to any of those?
They have been looking for the next Twilight since that series ended hence The Giver.
Transformers whatever was an attempt to reboot the series.
Hercules is mach 8 or 10, isnt it?

I haven't been to a theater in a long time... I just buy these movies on Blu-Ray/DVD... if I really want to see them. The last Star Wars movie I saw in the Theater was "Revenge Of The Sith" As for these Box Office reports... "Solo" passes "The Empire Strikes Back"? Perhaps... BUT... So what if "Solo" made "more money" than "The Empire Strikes Back"... Most often then not, the comparisons like that are BS. And what I mean by that is... Because they don't take into account Inflation, Ticket Prices, Ticket Sales, Population on the planet with access to movies... ETC... The list goes on... I could probably name just an average movie today, and say it made more money than one of the best movies made in 1930... Saying "It Made More Money Than" is just frequent studio propaganda... that is said into tricking people into thinking the movie is BETTER or it is more POPULAR than older films... Don't fall for it.

Most often then not, the comparisons like that are BS. Oh yes. Looking at Box Office Mojo's All Time Box Office Adjusted for Ticket Price Inflation Chart, the true comparable number, including re-issues and ticket price inflation is $899,334,600 for "Empire" vs. $210,189,097 for "Solo" (over 4 to 1). In addition, "The Empire Strikes Back" is #13 on the chart, while "Solo" is $75 million short of even entering the chart.

Now that you mention it, there are many similarities between "Solo" and "Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit". - Both are prequel/reboots
- Both recast an iconic character previously played by Harrison Ford
- Both were directed by actor/filmmakers
- Both credited directors replaced other directors on their respective projects
- Both had English actresses as their female leads
- Both opened below the previous four films in their respective series despite having wider theater counts
- Both grossed less at the domestic box office than their production budgets
- Both were intended to have sequels but are unlikely to get them based on #7

I remember Baldwin played the character. Think it was the only one I saw. Oh, look The reboot was Ben Affleck And it did well.

However, according to Wikipedia, so was "Shadow Recruit" (emphasis mine): Chris Pine is good, but I don't feel he's really made it that big, meaning brings an audience in. He doesn't feel like a box office draw.
