Like at all.
I got offered an Alien sequel because I was hot at that time, as a result of Time Bandits and Fisher King, and I just don’t want to do films like that. They are factory jobs, working for a studio. My last factory job was on the Chevrolet assembly plant in Los Angeles, during my junior year of college, night shift on the line. Never again.
I'll remember those words when he's hired on for a Marvel movie.

To be fair, apart from directly bashing the first movie, he's bashing the method of making the movies, not the franchise per se. I think his unique visual style would be all wrong for this franchise, and as the article notes, it would be a good bet that the studio would interfere to tone things down and make it more palatable for mass consumption.

I don't completely agree with him, but to be fair the series is kind of repetitive.

I understand where he's coming from with the series as a whole, but the fact that he hates the original too tells me that he has a very distinct taste in films.

His movies are hit and miss. Some are brilliant, others are painful to sit through. Tideland was just so annoying.

He hates the 1979 original? Blasphemy!
Seriously though - that movie is a masterpiece. His tastes must differ massively from my own so.
Thinking back to Gilliam movies I've seen, I think I liked Brazil (1985), though it's been so many years now I'm not entirely sure. Twelve Monkeys (1995) was a chore to sit through, however.

I know, I'm thinking the same for my opinion. Never saw any of his movies, to my recollection.

To be fair, apart from directly bashing the first movie, he's bashing the method of making the movies, not the franchise per se. Yeah, it's more about the studio system/process than the Alien franchise, per se. Gotta respectfully disagree. He's a great, super-visual director who could bring a totally fresh spin on the movies. I also think he could make the most cerebral, "thrilling" film since the original Alien. It's a moot point, since it'll never happen, but that's my take on it.
For sure.

I'm surprised someone didn't take that as a diss on those who have factory jobs. I don't see anything wrong with it being "factory" made. We all like different types of movies at different times.
