Another filmworthy musical figure would be Wilhelm Furtwaengler, a master conductor whose legacy was tarnished by his decision to remain in Germany under the Hitler regime, rather than join the exodus of artistic figures fleeing the country at that time. He maintained in his own defence that he was staunchly anti-Nazi, but stayed in the hopes of helping to use his influence to curb Nazi excesses. Although he has many defenders, there are many others who don't accept his rationales for remaining, and controversy followed him throughout his life and long after his death. There was a movie about Furtwängler:
Taking Sides (2001)
I saw that and thought it was pretty good. But it deals with Furtwaengler's immediate post-war handling by the Americans during the de-nazification of Germany. I'd like to see a more complete story, one that details his decisions to remain in Hitler's Germany, and what took place in his life throughout that period.

...another good one should be about the French nobleman Marquis de Lafayette who was made a general in the US Continental Army at age 19...

Ada Lovelace
Joseph Banks (the bio by Patrick O'Brian would probably make a good basis).

You could probably make a great one about Jørgen Jørgensen (real name), a Danish explorer/privateer/adventurer/rascal who… 1. …was somehow given command of the Admiral Yawl, a Danish brig, at age 28 and fought and lost to the British Navy in 1807. 2. …was captured by the British but escaped, sailed to Iceland with a few other convicts, seized its Danish governor, and declared himself first lord protector, then king, of the island in 1809. 3. …was captured after two months and taken back to England, was imprisoned but quickly released in 1811, and was recruited to spy for the British Foreign Office, traveling throughout France and Germany during the Napoleonic Wars. 4. …was arrested again for theft, avoided a death sentence because a prominent friend wrote a letter, and was shipped to the Australian Penal Colony in 1826. 5. ..was pardoned by the governor of New South Wales, for his efforts in catching a forgery ring, and put in charge of leading expeditions of Tasmania (then Van Diemen’s Land). He married an Irishwoman, also a convict, and died in 1841. Wow. Reads like a Dumas story.

I just keep posting these ideas, but someone should really do a miniseries about Sir William Phips.

Rome has quite a few:
Aurelian Constantine The Great Hannibal (Yes, I know he's from Carthage) Julian Marcus Aurelius
Also: Pope John XII Robert Smalls William Walker (the self-proclaimed president of Nicaragua, not one of the other 300 names Wikipedia lists with that same name)

Now that I think of it, someone should also do a miniseries about Paddy Roy Bates, the self-styled Prince of “Sealand,” an abandoned gun platform in the North Sea.

From Reddit. Event: Person: I can just picture the 1904 Marathon done as one of those splashy 'big' comedies of the 1960's--think The Great Race and Jack Lemmon, and it practically writes itself!

Fun Fact: I live 7.4 miles from the site of the 1904 Olympics.

Edward Cope and O.C. Marsh. Two men who started off on friendly terms, but their relationship descended into a lifelong obsessive rivalry which eventually ruined them both. Due to their many conflicts they made major contributions to the emergent field of Paleontology and greatly raised public interest in dinosaurs.
For a short documentary on this subject see PBS American Experience: Dinosaur Wars.
there was supposed to be one on HBO starring Carell and Gandolfini before he passed actually.

I think it would make a great story because some of the men's actions against each other (such as destroying fossils) would be unthinkable today.
