Sure. How do lesbians and transsexuals go together any more than pedophiles? Where is the message board section for alien abductees? Why are pedophiles and alien abductees less important than LGBTs? The fact that LGBT has enough clout to get its own message board section, and pedophiles don't, just goes to show that LGBTs have enough clout that they don't NEED their own message board section, and pedophiles do. And would we just be relying on paedophiles to report themselves for their sexual preferences, or would we be using a mindreading device on all individuals so that we could identify the ones with unfortunate sexual proclivities? |

No reason to suppose that paedophiles have less control over their sexual urges than ordinary heterosexuals and homosexuals; although it would probably be easier to commit an offence against a child than against a weaker adult. |

A paedophile can't be rehabilitated to no longer be sexually attracted to children, any more than gay conversion therapy would work on you or I. But if paedophilia were destigmatised to some degree, then that would facilitate a climate in which they could seek help to control their impulses and help to prevent them from offending. You're committing the logical fallacy of turning an 'ought' into an 'is' - i.e. because being attracted to children is bad, then that means that it must be unnatural and also something that can be rehabilitated. If you're an atheist, like myself, then you know that there was no designer of life who made sure that only 'good' ingredients go into the making of a human being. So that's a different proposition from trying to 'rehabilitate' someone who hasn't done anything wrong, based on a facet of their identity that is probably immutable. |
