This was an evening of Idiot Plot Syndrome on THE WALKING DEAD. One of the very few substantive things that happened in the first half of the show's present season is that Maggie usurped the spineless Gregory's leadership of the Hilltop community. But when the second half launched, it was as if the writers hadn't been watching their own show, a fairly common phenomenon with TWD, and everyone was back to treating Gregory as if he was still in charge. Though Gregory had just betrayed them and tried to turn over Maggie and Sasha to the Saviors, our heroes even laid out before him their plan to organize a rebellion against the villains. Not much happened on "The Other Side," tonight's installment, but the ep did underscore the danger posed by Gregory, as he's clearly poised to spill his guts to Negan lieutenant Simon. Merely poised, of course--if wouldn't be TWD if it didn't try to artificially stretch every bit of what passes for plot to the absolute breaking-point. Tonight's a-plot was the Saviors stopping by Hilltop to appropriate its doctor after Negan torched his own. That's all. The b-plot followed Sasha and Rosita as they made their way to the Saviors' compound to try to kill Negan. A few eps ago, both admitted they expected this to be a suicide mission. If they attempt such a thing and are killed, captured or even identified, the likely outcome is that the Saviors descend on the various communities in force and out for revenge, an onslaught both Sasha and Rosita know full well those communities are, at present, entirely incapable of resisting, but Negan murdered their co-beau with his bat and as TWD's writers are sure, women are just completely irrational children who let their emotions drive them, even if it puts everyone in danger... Is it possible this was the worst ep of the entire series? I'd rack my brain to try and think of anything worse but I don't want to remember anything worse.
Argh, I just remembered the farm ep with the walker in the well. Maybe that one is still the worst.

I didn't have too much of a problem with the Eugene ep, at least there was some mystery of what was going to happen to him and how he'd react to being in the Savior compound, and it had amusing scenes and a nice (albeit dumb) finish. Did it need an entire episode? Not really. Ya the Daryl ep was more of a waste, as was Tara's Oceanside trip. The story we've gotten so far could've been edited down to half the number of episodes.

I certainly would not mind story telling and character development on this show if it was interesting and compelling, but that ship has sailed and I don't see it changing now. Fully agree that Sasha and Rosita's so-called plan is idiotic, and puts both Hilltop and ASZ in danger. I guess Enid will tell Maggie and Daryl and one of them will have to warn Alexandria. So Rosita suddenly has knowledge of explosives? Would have been nice of her to give a lesson to someone else before leaving on a suicide mission. Is this why Sasha feels that the group needs Rosita more than her? The best sniper and marksman in the group that ACTUALLY tries to work with the group is not important? I wish the show would actually surprise us for a change and kill Rosita instead of Sasha. I'm so tired of her!
Other "Revelations"... Gregory is a dick...already knew that Jesus is gay.....who cares? already knew Comic Jesus was gay Saviors are still dicks....etc. Walkers are still weak and not a threat until the plot calls for them to be. Sasha and Rosita are thoughtless, selfish idiots without a thought about the other survivors. Rosita's still a bitch...questioning Sasha's shooting skills when SHE is the one who missed Neegan at point blank range. Her backstory did nothing to make me care for her anymore. Maggie does not blame Daryl....Duh, this was a dumb idea, although many on old IMDb posters did seem to feel Daryl was responsible. Regardless, this issue was resolved so late that no one actually cares anymore. Eugene...who knows? I thought he had a "long con" planned, but his reaction to being rescued reverted back to his coward stereotype with his hilarious "I just shit my pants" face!
How could so much happen in one episode and it still be boring as hell? This show has become a comic strip, but not the one it was based upon. It now has all the excitement and dynamic drive of "Mary Worth"!

Absolutely RUBBISH episode, boring as hell as pretty much all of S7 has been! Not liking these 'Rick'less' episodes, he's hardly been in this season. Come on, something needs to happen and I mean now! Stop with the boring, mindless filler and lets have some action for a change. Rubbish.
