So far in March, Logan, Kong Skull Island and now Beauty and Beast have all been successful and surpassed expectations.
Power Rangers is next, it was probably always the one that was most likely to go either way.
Reviews are coming out now. It has a 45% from 11 reviews. Not much of an indicator of anything yet but bad reviews shouldn't be surprising.
I don't know what opening weekend expectations for this are. I don't know what the budget is. I could see it maybe opening at $40 million. It won't be #1.
I'd hope it wouldn't flop but I wouldn't be surprised at all if it did.

I do think the massive success for BatB will have an affect on PR. Even if BatB has a 60% + drop, that's still a lot lost business that Power Rangers is losing. Without looking at tracking, I'd say it is a low 30M opening weekend. Not sure of the budget, but I'm sure that it is going to need a better opening than 30M

I can see it flopping in the US, but it will probably be a decent hit in China (which is probably the market it was designed for anyway).

I'm surprised, being as it was by Lionsgate I was expecting it to cost around $70 million or something.

I think it'd have a nice opening but then drop afterwards.

It will disappoint but they'll make a sequel anyway.

I think it's going to be a modest. Not a flop but not a blockbuster.

Yes. I see it flopping. Based on the trailers, this movie seems to have no idea what it was trying to go for, basically coming across as a mix of "The Breakfast Club" and "Chronicle" with a little bit of "Transformers" sprinkled in. Also, "Beauty and the Beast" is on fire right now. It's got strong word of mouth from audiences, broke the March record for a domestic opening, has an enormous nostalgia factor going for it, and is a Disney movie. No way will "Power Rangers" be able to really compete with that. And with the reviews coming in, and more solid competition on the way, I just don't see it making back its investment.

If this makes 250M WW, it will be a modest success with sequels ready to go. Knowing Lionsgate, they probably sold distribution rights for the overseas markets and have already made some money on this.

Box Office Mojo are predicting a $38 million opening weekend. That would be very respectable.

My adorable 4 year old niece likes Power Rangers so there must be a current TV show. If kids dig the characters then it will most likely do pretty well. A Paw Patrol movie would interest her more though.

Reviews for the film seem to be straight forward. If you liked the show, you will at least find some enjoyment in the film. If you never watched the show or didn't like it, this film is not for you. Are there enough 90s fanboys out there to drive this up over 30 million, and if there are will the word of mouth be good enough for those people to pass on Logan, King Kong, and Beauty & the Beast? Another thing that hurts it is that there is no 3D or IMAX. If Power Rangers had that, you could easily add another 5 million or so opening weekend. All of the films mentioned above have/had 3D or IMAX, or both of them.

Previews are at $3.6 million, higher than Skull Island. Box Mojo are saying $40+ million is a foregone conclusion.

Seems that the brand still has enough of a loyal cult following to make a small profit, like a larger-scale version of "John Wick." I'll bet we'll be seeing more sequels coming in, and maybe Power Rangers won't succumb to the same fate as the Divergent series did.

Nostalgia will make money on opening weekend, it could crash and burn after that
