If the 40 million or more holds for the opening weekend, it is a lock to have a sequel greenlight here in the coming weeks. Lionsgate is a company that knows how to milk a series dry. If the Jason Statham Mechanic remake can get a sequel, and maybe even a third film, Power Rangers will easily get a sequel.

Estimates have gone up from the looks of it. According to Deadline they're now saying $42.2 million.

Power Rangers is apparently really popular with kids right now, at least according to my Aunt. It won't be one of the biggest blockbusters of the year by any means, but they'll do fine.

Total Lifetime Grosses Domestic: $80,527,923 62.8% + Foreign: $47,700,000 37.2% = Worldwide: $128,227,923 www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=powerrangers16.htmLooks like a flop now, won't hit 200m Worldwide. I thought it would do better overseas, back to tv i guess.

I think those markets will save it, but Lionsgate's future sequel plans will be scuttled.

The domestic gross is decent enough, on par with the likes of the last Ninja Turtles movie.
The overseas gross is horrendous though, very surprised by that. It has a few decent markets left to hopefully get it over double it's budget.

I don't see how Lionsgate greenlighted a sequel so quickly. It did better than expected opening weekend domestically, but has since fell hard. And with a budget of 100 million, it doesn't appear it will make another 70 million to get into profit range. They have to be hoping for big home video sales for this one.

It also just bombed in China, franchise is dead Oh yeah, Lionsgate got way out in front of themselves on greenlighting this sequel. They still need another 65 million dollars just to break even at the box office. The only thing well the film did was that it beat opening weekend expectations. It did nothing else right.
