You didn't like?
Ok, the courtroom stuff was average. But first half of the film. AB's performance and the 3 girls was just amazing.
The message of the film is also brave and can't be ignored.

Yes, he had a very understated, Hollywood performance.
I got feelings that I was watching a Hollywood movie whenever he was on the screen.

Man, I recently watched Ritwik Ghatak's Ajantrik: www.imdb.com/title/tt0051343/. It is an interesting film and I feel it had some influence on Taxi Driver.

It is purely a guess. But I've read that Scorsese, whom I absolutely loathe as a filmmaker, used to watch a lot of Bengali films while growing up as a kid.

There is no plot-wise influence. The influence is in imagining that a lonely, alienated taxi driver can be cinematically interesting. If someone asks me if there is any lineage to Taxi Driver, I'd answer Ajantrik.

i always recommend IRUVAR - the maniratnam-mohanlal-aishwarya rai-ar rehman-prakash raj collaboration to a lot of people. i consider it to be one of the most daring films that tried to stay within the commercial film format, yet can be enjoyed by true lovers of cinema. From recent times Badlapur, if they like revenge stuff. Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro is also one people usually like.

Man, there was no magic in it. Even the Mahabharath scene came across as forced to me. I guess it's not the movie but the movie-experience that clouds our memories.

@darkprofile What about Ray's Abhijaan? Even that could have influenced Taxi Driver.

themanwithnoshame I haven't seen Abhijaan. But I don't think Ray's elegance can be compared to Ghatak's rawness. Taxi Driver falls more in Ghatak's quadrant. On a side note, I was reading about Ghatak and I couldn't shake the Travis Bickle similarities in his lifestyle. He regularly used to visit Sona Gacchi and there are many stories of his perverse exploits there.
