Years ago I used to think they were stupid and couldn't understand why they would do it. As time has gone by I can understand why some people would want to. An escape to the crapness of the world.
So I am all for drug use as long as it's done safely and in moderation, and as long as you don't have a family or a child or anyone to look after. If that's the case then they are assholes.

I don't object to people using drugs including alcohol. But I've learned to not associate with those who use hard drugs. I've known very few people who can regularly use cocaine, meth, heroin or Oxycontin in moderation and keep it under control. They usually cannot be trusted. All things in moderation.

Even with moderation there is no telling what something might be laced with or how a first time user will react to some of the harder drugs.

Whether it's alcohol, narcotics or something else entirely, I suppose it's up to the individual to choose, provided they are adults in the legal sense of the word.
At this point in my life, I use alcohol frequently, but in moderation. I believe moderation and self-control are the key factors in this situation.

After suffering from a disc prolapse in around 2006. I was prescribed 20MG of OxyContin every 8 hours. However, it wasn't until I combined it with Ibuprofen that I started seeing some real pain relief. After a year or so, I eventually found that I was sometimes able to delay or skip regularly scheduled doses and sometimes, I could even go for an entire day without pain relief.
Since then, I've experimented with various different approaches to pain relief or pain avoidance and these days, I find on average I need to resort to OxyContin and Ibuprofen every 3 months or so. I still occasionally encounter an extended bad spot - the last time was in 2016 - and when I do, I'm thankful for both forms of medication.
And how did I avoid becoming addicted? It was simple. My mother was an enrolled nurse for over 50 years and she always told me if I only used pain relief when I actually needed it, I wouldn't become addicted and it would remain effective for a longer period of time. She was right on both counts.

What are they, high?
I'm pro legalization of all drugs.
Unsurprisingly, I've done plenty of drug experimentation myself. I'm not a big user of anything, but I still occasionally do a couple things recreationally--mostly pot and every once in awhile shrooms. Those were always my two favorite drugs.
It's not necessarily an "escape." I've been primarily interested in the altered consciousness angle. It's a good means of gaining alternate perspectives, and that's also very helpful if you do anything creative.

Who? Have you ever tried something like LSD or acid? What about salvia? (legal apparently)

Fine, as long as they do it responsibly without doing harm to self or others. Personally, taking aspirin is about all I can Bayer.

Common sense... hard drugs are bad. period.
those who do heroin/meth and the like are just stupid as their lives are pretty much over as they become a slave to the drugs and nothing else matters to them at that point besides the drugs, pretty much.
even if they eventually try to get off of those hard drugs, it seems to be a life long struggle to resist them (as it seems the odds of those who stay clean for a long time are slim). they are simply not worth it as the bad far outweighs any potential immediate good one might see in them.
with that said... marijuana is not the end of the world (I never smoked it even though I could have if I wanted to in the past) as even people who are against drugs (and even marijuana) don't seem to care TOO much about that one as I don't think many would be heavily against marijuana. but once you go beyond that, they are just flat out unquestionably bad. but personally I still think more negatively than positively about marijuana though even though I realize it might be used to help some people with pain etc and in that regard it's okay enough but just for those who use it for the high, I am not a fan as I thinking smoking is not good for you in general. but speaking of smoking... I never understood the point of cigarettes as they just seem like nothing but negative (at least I get the basic point of marijuana which is to get high etc) as I start feeling sick breathing that crap in as I can't be around that stuff for long (but thankfully I am not around that much at all in general). that speaks volumes about it as it's basically just poison that slowly kills people over years and decades of use.
p.s. I know alcohol is a drug but that's fine as long as it's used in moderation but the problem is many end up getting wasted when they drink and that's when it becomes a problem. basically if someone drinks so much to where they can't even remember what happened, that's clearly a problem. personally I don't understand the appeal of getting wasted as I don't like the feeling as once I reach a certain point ill simply stop drinking. I drink for taste, not to get wasted. I don't mind the buzz feeling, as it can be a little relaxing, but it's nothing I think is great etc. basically when I drink I don't often exceed 3 12oz beers or so and is less a fair amount of the time as i think the most I ever had in my life, which happened twice I think, was probably something in the ball park of 6-8 12oz beer equivalent as it was hard to measure for sure since it was mixed drinks (at a wedding) and some were a bit stronger than others as I think it was something like five cups. but with that said... I think alcohol is the safest drug as long as it's not abused as when it's abused, then obviously, it becomes a huge problem. but as long as it's used in moderation I am confident it's safer than marijuana etc because at least there is no smoke going into your lungs which cannot be good for your health.

As someone who grew up in a drug culture, I have a biased POV on this. I see drug addicts as humans and nothing more, they just put their human condition on display for all to see. That said, I don't associate with hard drug users. They are usually irrational, impulsive, and end up taking you hostage emotionally.

Drug use ultimately never leads to anywhere good. Show me one VH1 "life of" some rock star or celebrity who did drugs and their career didn't get fucked up. And those people had the money to A) support their habit, and B) go to rehab to clean up! Imagine if you're an average joe?! No. Drugs are shit.

No, I'm simply relaxed and at ease.
Smiling takes an effort too, you know.

I feel sorry for some of them 'cause I can see the reason why some of them turn to drugs but I have no sympathy for Ice addicts 'cause many of them are violent people who attack their family and friends when they are trying to help them and steal from them. The worst thing is some Ice addicts have children and they give their children the drug even when they are only babies and I think they should have their children taken off them permanently or until they are completely off the drug and have their life back on track.

I agree, it's a way to escape reality and hard times. That being said, I won't have to take them anytime soon.
