The first one was the best. The sequels couldn't quite match up to it.

Yeah, it's one of the most fun, and as you say, iconic, movies of the 1980s.

Back to the Future is one of the best movies of the 80's and is a classic. Over all it's a great trilogy.

The first one was the best. The sequels couldn't quite match up to it. I disagree , Misstique ! The first movie was definitely iconic , but I thought the sequels stood on their own merits . Not many trilogies do that . I thought the Matrix trilogy held it's own too !

Part two is great. Part three is okay, but overall I do think the trilogy is quite good. I think one of the biggest flaws with the third movie is that the villains are boring. There's not much of a connection to them compared to Biff and his cronies. I like Matrix trilogy too. I initially hated the second movie – it's still my least favorite – and second movies do seem a little off/made up after the fact, but I do like them.

I think I should have phrased my opinion a bit better. I apologize for that. What I meant was that sequels weren't as good as the original. Not saying that they are bad, they are still very enjoyable to watch. I liked how the second one examined the "disastrous consequences" of time travel that Doc was talking so much about in the first. It introduced some great things which also went on to become iconic (like the Hoverboard or the Nike Sneakers). But there were parts of it which were a bit boring. The third one seemed just like an excuse to send Marty to the Wild West. It seemed a bit too contrived and was recycling some stuff from the original.

While I do enjoy the entire trilogy, I have to say that the sequels haven't aged as well as the original movie has. I can watch the original movie forever, but I tend to get bored with the sequels.
Frankly, I think it would have been better if the filmmakers had gone with the original idea of the original being a stand-alone film, with the "To be Continued" thing just being a joke.
I have the whole movie near-memorized, almost line for line. And I also found earlier drafts of the screenplay that are quite interesting. In the first draft, the time machine is a laser device instead of a car, and Marty's girlfriend is named Suzy instead of Jennifer. Not as good as the movie we eventually got, but there are some bits and pieces that I'm sad didnt make it to the final version, like when Marty is trying to call Doc's house with the phone booth, he realizes at he doesn't have a dime, just a nickel, and he calls the phone operator, ranting about how he doesn't have enough money to make a call, and it's an emergency, and then the operator tells him that it doesn't cost a dime, just a nickel, and then Marty feels foolish. I found it so funny.

The original is a classic. The first sequel threw everything in but the kitchen sink...and I have yet to see the final film. Not interested in the wild west.

They're definitely cheeses and full of eye roll moments but this is one of the few trilogies where there isn't a big drop off between any of the films. They can be enjoyed by all ages too.
I give all three films a 7/10.

I like all 3. I think overall 2 is my favorite of the 3 followed closely by the original.

Love it! I want to be a real life Marty Mcfly. I always really liked Marty. I thought he was really cool (skateboarding on the back of trucks, hellooo)and I liked that he was fearless and stood up to Biff.

I saw and enjoyed the entire trilogy in theaters when each film first came out. I only remember seeing the third one in theaters. It was at this dive theater that was the last of its kind. I remember seeing the first one when my sister's boyfriend brought over a copy on VHS. He kept telling us that we had see this movie. I never heard of it,, but loved it. I don't remember the first time I saw the second one.
