I didn't hate the Wolfman remake, but that's because it didn't really leave any kind of impression. It was mostly forgettable, which is a shame considering the cast.

I thought "Wolf" was great. Never been really intrigued by werewolves, but this one was a standout for me. I'm a big Nicholson fan, so that probably has something to do with it. "The Howling" series had some interesting practical effects in places, but something about werewolves in general never really scratched my itch. This thread makes me want to check out the remake of "Wolfman." Benicio Del Toro seemed like a great casting choice...I'll give it a shot.

What do people think of the Jack Nicholson film Wolf (1994)?
I managed to see that movie at least once on TV (many moons ago). I think I remember liking it quite a bit, and it being a 'different' sort of werewolf movie. I'd seen pictures of Jack Nicholson in his wolfman make-up from that movie when it was released in theatres - and those were freaky enough at the time, but what I found particularly unnerving when watching the movie was James Spader's eyes when he'd started to turn. It was a very simple thing, but effective nonetheless, I thought.
The other werewolf movie I really enjoy (that's not your 'typical' werewolf movie) is The Company of Wolves.

It reminded me of An American Werewolf in London at times, but for the most part it just bored me. The heavy reliance on CGI didn't help matters either. The 1941 version is much better.
