..and are wondering why it disappeared. Here's what the user had to say via Patreon: "Last night HBO seems to have decided that they would no longer like to see my John Oliver videos on YouTube. They issued copyright takedowns against a number of them, therefore my channel of over 200.000 subscribers has been disabled.
Given that there was a bespoke agreement between HBO and me for 4 years (they were obviously aware of my videos that had millions of views, but they never took down those shorter than 5 minutes), I find this measure a little over the top (they can block videos without killing my channel). It seems like it was done by some Indian company called MarkScan which I guess they hired to clean up the internet for them.
I could probably contact HBO and ask them to undo this in the name of fairness. However, this comes at a stage in my life when I am having less and less time for my channel, and I have recently only done the John Oliver uploads on Sunday nights, which has become a habit for me over the years. And that is precisely what I could not continue doing even if my channel was alive.
It was nice to become an accidental YouTube celebrity for a couple of years, but now it is time to move on.
Thank you all for your support!
Maybe some day we will meet again." www.patreon.com/posts/i-am-gone-from-20579311
