I remember seeing this movie in the early- to mid-90s on TV in the U.S., and at the time it didn't look like it was too old of a movie. It was an English language movie IIRC, but was set in an Asian country, possible Southeast Asia. A young girl (possibly mid- to late-teens) marries an older man, and I believe she was forced to marry him. The movie must take place over a time span, because I remember later in the movie she is older, and during an argument with the man says the line, "All I wanted was a bowl of rice!" (I don't remember the context of the line.)

Is it one of the storylines of THE JOY LUCK CLUB? Thanks for the response. I'm not so sure that's it. I know I've seen the Joy Luck Club, but I don't remember it so well, so I read the rather detailed synopsis for the movie, and nothing seems to match. (I might have to watch that movie again to be 100% certain I can rule it out, however.)

Thanks for the response. That's not it. It definitely wasn't Jane March in the movie I'm seeking.
