According to director Antoine Fuqua (The Equalizer, Training Day) he was told by producer Barbara Broccoli they were on the hunt for a more 'unique' actor to take on the role.  Elba is too old man, first off. And after seeing Fallout, I think Cavill has the chops for it.

How is Elba too old at 45? Haven't seen enough of Cavill. Because these movies generally take two to four years between each installment nowadays. He'd be 47, 48 the first time and then probably the same age as Moore retired if Elba continued at the same rate Daniel Craig had starting now. |
