Who do you think was a better batsman? My vote goes to Anwar. I have never seen such exquisite strokes played so effortlessly by any batsman. Time to recognise Anwar's geniusWhen Anwar surpassed the 'King'"a Saeed Anwar cover drive was arguably the most pleasing sight in cricket in the 90s." "The methodology he employed was one of caressing the ball to its desired location; always seeming to be in control. A Saeed Anwar shot was a work-of-art, something that generated gasps from the most cynical of cricket fans. To watch him in full flight was to rise above partisanship, for something that beautiful could never be the property of one people. There was a pleasure in watching a genius scale the heights of elegance and effortlessness; and there was pride to have witnessed it. He wasn’t a textbook player when attacking: he, quite often, played away from his body. But like Sehwag a generation later, he realized that when you have superhuman hand-eye-coordination and supreme sense of timing, you don’t need to follow any textbook."

Tendulkar is the better batsman. But I would rather watch Anwar playing a long innings.

If sachin can be compared to anwar than this comparison can be worth to be compared.

Anwar failed rather badly against Zimbabwe, West Indies and South Africa in tests. Most of his big scores came against Australia at home, Sri Lanka and India. He even failed against 90s England at home.
he will well against Australia in Australia and England. But Tendulkar clearly did better.
Only place where I thought Anwar was better than Tendulkar was against NZ in NZ.But not even that is true.

One should not rely on them to reach to conclusions. I count on my personal experience to arrive at truth. As far as I can remember, watching little Tendu play was an exercise in disappointment and impotence. On the other end, watching the great Anwar play was like witnessing the thrill of a serial-killer going about his business in the most ruthless fashion.

Rather incongruous, aren't they? I mean the two statements.
Anyway, my observations were based on cold stats and not memory. I compared the stats of Anwar and Tendulkar in the 90s. We already know that tendulkar had a much higher average. But I wanted to analyse what attacks they had to face. Seems like both failed against 90s Zimbabwe and South Africa. Still, Tendulkar was marginally better against the Saffers. Anwar's failure against Windies was glaring. He totally creamed India. While he did pretty well against Lanka, Tendulkar did far better.
Whenever India faced Pakistan, Tendulkar had difficulty against the superior Pak attack while Anwar feasted on Indian attack. Which probably accounts for the perceived impotence.

Man, you are right. Glad you picked up the self-contradictory tone of my post. It was an attempt at humor, a failed one I guess. Really, there is no comparison. I was trying to bait more users on this board. Sadly, people have started to grow disenchanted with the lack of activity here.

So, the game of baiting people and mysterious identities starts in here. Good going.

A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do, Man. Once my agenda is fulfilled, I'll retreat into the shadows.

amit654321 Thanks, Amit. I guess most ICB posters are still hanging on to the hope of Col Needham changing his mind. We'll have to wait till 20th to see how successful the transition would be.
