AbrahamIt's easy to get distracted by Genesis 22:2, 3 It stands out specifically because of the oddness of the request and the willing nature of Abraham to carry it out. Child sacrifice was not a norm of worship to God and yet the outrage associated with the story implies that people are told to sacrifice their kids all the time. It is the perfect example of focusing on the interesting and missing the point which was one of faith & confidence. From the beginning of God;s conversation with Abraham, he promised him a nation based off his offspring: Now at this time, Abraham already had a great deal of faith in God's promises. Afterall, he appeared to be a wealthy man given the size of his estate. He left what could have been a cushier life in Ur to travel around as a nomad. While God did not promise him a nation, he always assured Abraham he would essentially birth a nation. Still, Abraham's faith had to grow into believing that and especially as he and his wife got older and older. He had previous doubts regarding God's judgement and intentions, not only with him having a kid, but also in regards to God's judgement of Sodom & Gomorrah. God kept reassuring him: Genesis 17 Finally, once he approaches 100, this final assurance at Genesis 18: What happened? So decades later, God kept his promise, Isaac was born, & Abraham's faith was rewarded. ONLY Isaac is tied to this promise that God has been promising Abraham. So with that context in mind, we go back to: Now those verses no longer have as big of an impact unless we force them to by ignoring everything before it, but they also no longer have much impact based on what is said after the verses. To be continued... Cool story bro! You DO realise that your comments are purely your own opinion of what is in the Bible, right? Well I give my opinion in the second post. However, you are more than welcome to explain the differences in the verses quoted and the statement I make regarding them. In the end, it's not like it matters since I'm going to write them anyway.

Great! That is absolutely fine, you can post what you like. My comment was merely to assure you that whilst your opinion is of great value and interest to you, it may NOT be to others. MY point is, and always has been and always will be, that interpretation of the Bible is fraught with great difficulties, therefore your opinion has JUST as much value as anyone else's, so is no more valid or interesting, and is probably of personal value only, and not universal. Great hobby though! I would need way more provenance and evidence of historical accuracy of those verses being translated accurately, be representative of what God is alleged to have said and done, before it would be worth my time. In other words, no thanks ,because it is fictional and open to a zillion interpretations, which in the end result is meaningless. We agree that writing them has value to you and perhaps a few other theists who might like to argue with you for the sake of it!

The whole reason I started the thread was because theophobiacs are indeed not interested in it. I always start threads based on my level of interest. However my comments on whatever stupid thing they say in the goofy threads you all create can refer back to this and it serves as a paper trail when theophobiacs pretend to know my thoughts on a matter. My next one will be on Jonah probably so knowing ahead of time means you won’t even have to come to the thread mistakenly thinking you may be interested.

Please feel free to indulge your hobbies on this Board. You are as free do so as any other poster of any stripe is, to post their your words, thoughts and opinions. The problem is with you, that whilst you are under no obligation to express these thoughts, that you express some and not others and they are often contradictory that leads some other posters to be...confused about what you say. Yay Jonah! I love whales! I would be on the whale's side. I see whales passing my house ( in the ocean) twice a year, and sometimes they wear a Tshirt saying 'We got Jonah'!

I’ve never said anything contradictory. I am glad you are looking forward to Jonah. What you like about it is perfectly suited to the thread. As an aside, who said it was a whale?

Many people find your on gain off again Jehovah's Witness schizophrenia, a little contradictory. Also your apologetics according to the subject currently being discussed in the Bible. Who said 'what'? was a whale?

The Christian God is dead, because it never was. That is why Christians are full of contradictions, because they are holding onto an outdated and wrongheaded belief system.
So you are saying I'm being contradictory because God is dead although I don;t believe that and you can;t verify it. That's deep.

I know exactly what I am and this more a case of theophobiacs being mad that I am not what they want me to be which isn't my problem or error.

You almost were, then you weren't, then you were again, recently. It is mighty hard for us humble theophobics to keep up with the flipsie flopsies… such is our interest in your pontifications on this Boards!
