Woody Allen mentions The Sorrow and and the Pity in Annie Hall. Don't think we see any of the film though. If my memory is correct, I think we get see a short title sequence from The Sorrow and The Pity 1968 in Annie Hall 1977 too.

In Twister (1996), which makes reference to The Wizard of Oz, when the big twister hits in the film, one of the characters is seen in bed watching another Garland film, A Star Is Born.
In A Star Is Born, itself, Garland's character is seen in a theater watching herself in the BORN IN A TRUNK number which, showed how her character became a star.
And, how about two Bette Davis clips as a young actress in Whatever Happened to Baby Jane. While Crawford watches her old movies on TV.

RADIO DAYS -- Woody's Aunt Bea and her new beau treat him to a trip to Radio City Music Hall to watch Kate and Jimmy necking in THE PHILADELPHIA STORY. This is why I need to read more slowly and maybe enlarge the screen a tad … I read it as: "to watch Kate and Jimmy naked in THE PHILADELPHIA STORY." 2nd thought after I posted … was Woody to be naked while watching the film or were Kate and Jimmy naked in the film ?

In Lust, Caution (2007) dir: Ang Lee, the heroine (played by Wei Tang) is a movie fan and we see her watching three films at different points in the movie. The first is "Intermezzo: A Love Story" (1939) dir: Gregory Ratoff The second is "Penny Serenade" (1941) dir: George Stevens. That movie is interrupted abruptly by a Japanese Occupation propaganda newsreel whereupon most of the audience walk out. I presume the feature would have resumed after the news, but that part was not shown. The third was a Chinese film which I did not recognize. I recommend this movie. Ang Lee's best and most personal work to date, while Tony Leung may by now be the most universally esteemed film actor in the world.

L.A. Confidential - Crowe and Basinger are in a theatre watching Roman Holiday Indeed they are. And earlier Basinger and a "councilman" client are watching This Gun for Hire (1942) dir: Frank Tuttle, starring Alan Ladd and Veronica Lake. Basinger plays a call-girl working for an agency that supplies girls made up to look like famous film stars (utilizing plastic surgery where necessary). Basinger is supposed to be a Lake clone.

If I had directed JFK, I'd have depicted Oswald's arrest in a theater showing War Is Hell. But they do. I think there is a couple of seconds of the film screen shown as well.
Oldman says: "This is it. I am not resisting arrest!" as he is dragged away.

The Man Who Fell to Earth (1976) Nicolas Roeg Mary-Lou (Candy Clark) has had enough of Tommy's (David Bowie) 12 screen addiction. Among the TV shows and other films ? screening in this scene is Billy Budd which is highlighted with some brief quotes and action from the film .

In Mujeres al borde de un ataque de "nervios" (1988) written and directed by Pedro Almodóvar, the principal characters are actors who, among other jobs, voice-dub American films into Spanish. We see them dubbing Sterling Hayden and Joan Crawford in Johnny Guitar (1954) with, IMHO, somewhat inappropriate voices.

Woody Allen has cropped up a few times already. He likes to quote film classics. In Crimes and Misdemeanors (1989) he shows clips from: Mr and Mrs Smith (1941) dir: Alfred Hitchcock The Last Gangster (1937) dir: Edward Ludwig This Gun for Hire (1942) dir: Frank Tuttle Happy Go Lucky (1943) dir: Curtis Bernhardt Francis (1950) dir: Arthur Lubin

Woody Allen's Manhattan Murder Mystery references the hall of mirrors sequence from The Lady From Shanghai. I think parts of it are also shown. Not only shown, but integrated into the climax of the film. Earlier, Allen also shows a clip from Double Indemnity (1944), the scene where Stanwyck is hiding behind a door notoriously opening outwards into the hallway.

I was introduced to the wonderful silent film Tol'able David (1921) after seeing a clip of it in William Castle's The Tingler (1959). The Tingler was apparently a silent movie buff since there were was no screaming in the films themselves (until Vincent Price had to go and spoil its fun by encouraging the audience to start screaming).
