Because if it's filtered with the same dark, bleak palette that BvS had AND it's underwater then that's basically just wasting special effects. Might as well just tell us to close our eyes and imagine the scene.

I agree. But I'm trying to figure out an underwater movie where the scenery looks good (live action, not like LITTLE MERMAID or something).

I don't think we've had any good underwater movies within the last decade for proper comparison. None with the kind of CGI we have nowadays anyway. Which is why Aquaman can be a completely unique and breakthrough movie if done properly. All the movies with deep underwater scenes I recall are pretty old ones like Waterworld, Deep Blue Sea, Abyss, etc.
