The cult classic sci-fi show Space 1999 is coming to the Comet network. It starts late night next Saturday (8 Sep). I loved that show when I was a kid! Alas, it really hasn't aged all that well. Fun fact - did you know that Space 1999 started out as a sequel to the series UFO? The sequel would have been set 20 years or so after the original show and the moonbase, Eagles, and all that stuff was the next generation of the alien defence tech in UFO. When the idea of a sequel series fell through Anderson came up with a new story to use all the models and stuff in, and that's how Space 1999 was born.

UFO was a good show too but I haven't seen it in decades.

Catman has enjoyed the first few episodes.
But what happened to Commissioner Simmonds, who was on the moon when things went boom?

I have watched the first 8 eps for the first time since the 70's and I have to say the show holds up really well. They were trying to do a lot of serious science fiction on a shoe string budget. If I recall the show takes something of a nose dive in season 2 but I am going to watch the whole thing and see where it goes.

I was quoting Wikipedia when I said "Earthbound" was the fifth episode, but I see that the IMDb lists it as fourteenth. My favorite episode is the next one (I think) in your viewing order: "Mission of the Darians" from Season 1. Season 2 is different than Season 1, but it's not all bad.

Catman likes that they seem to be cutting nothing from the show in order to get commercials in.

So the Simmons story wrapped up during the second episode shown Saturday night. Rather satisfying.
And the aliens looked a lot like the Castithans from Defiance.

It seems like it was intended to air earlier in the season but networks and show runners often air episodes out of order for whatever reason.
Christopher Lee and his crew did look a little like Castithans.
Did you notice the blooper where one of the aliens woke up when he wasn't supposed to. It was when Simmons was panicking in the capsule.

Some of the season 2 episodes been rather poor, especially that one with the trader. Catman had never had the misfortune of seeing that one before, and had it been the first one he'd seen, he probably never would have watched the show again.
Yes, it was so bad it made some of the worst episodes of Lost in Space look like high art.
