Long movie, just over 4.5 hours. Incredible production value with thousands of extras re-enacting the three days there.
Fine large cast. I thought Jeff Daniels as Col. Chamberlain, Sam Elliott as Buford and Stephen Lang as Pickett were particularly outstanding.
Fairly faithful to the outstanding Michael Shaara novel The Killer Angels.
Not very bloody for such a bloody three days but I think there had to be budget issues considering the scale.
Didn't much care for the score. Can't help but compare it to Glory. James Horner's brilliant score in that film adds so much depth and feeling to that fine film.
I think Glory is the better film but Gettysburg is well worth watching. 8/10

It did too much to make war look like a mildly stressful argument between gentlemen at a picnic. 6/10 only because of Jeff Daniels and the Battle of Little Round Top.

6/10 - The battle scenes are monotonous. The musical score is awful. The dialogue is boring, mostly in the form of too many pre-battle speeches.
The only reason I rated it as high as a 6 is because the history of the subject matter is somewhat interesting, along with good performances from Tom Berenger, Martin Sheen, Jeff Daniels, etc.
This is a movie primarily good for showing to high school students in U.S. history classes. But as a feature film, it's really boring, repetitive, and way too long. They could have easily cut 2 of the 4 hours of this movie, and it would not have been any worse.
