Or more specifically, the Irving G. Thalberg Award at this year's Governors Award ceremony. Rejoice.

Looks like she is not leaving before Celebration Peter Sciretta's tweet is an example of not understanding the relevance of a statistic to an argument. (Or in this case, irrelevance). I have seen this argument before. But blu-ray and DVD sales are surprisingly irrelevant to the issue of box office profits for a film. Yes, they can pad the profits. But let's unpack this. ~ A movie is primarily designed for box office profit, and this is what studio owners and top executives will judge it by. Not DVD/Blu-ray sales. Unless it's a straight-to-video movie, of course. Over performing at blu-ray sales while underperforming at the box office will not save jobs in of itself. ~ Every Disney SW movie has topped the blu-ray sales in it's respective year. TFA in 2016. RO in 2017. TLJ in 2018. So the stat is not surprising. ~ It's a different story as far as DVD sales. It does not top that list. ~ DVD and blu-ray performance don't reflect box office performance. Let me explain. 'Spider-Man: Homecoming' was a box office success. But it comes in at number 20 on the same list Sciretta referred to. But 'Pacific Rim: Uprising' (a modest international success but almost nonexistent in domestic ticket sales), and the colossal box office flop 'A Wrinkle In Time' both have more blu-ray sales than Spider-Man: Homecoming'. This award is no reflection of what her current standing is with regard to her performance overseeing LucasFilm and SW. It's about her resume before she ever headed up LucasFilm. Outside of TFA and Rogue One (minus the extensive reshoots), Kathleen has made a lot of decisions ranging from questionable to terrible. She is probably somewhat on the hot seat. Whether or not Kathleen Kennedy is fired will probably depend on what episode IX does at the box office.

Idjits who think she doesn't deserve it should understand that it's basically an award for a person's entire body of work, and also just how many classics she has produced: E.T. Poltergeist The Goonies Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom The Color Purple Who Framed Roger Rabbit Back to the Future I-III Jurassic Park Schindler's list The Sixth Sense

Kathleen is a great producer in general, but she is way too traditional when it comes to Star Wars. Everything must 'respect' the legacy, irreverence not really tolerated. It's a miracle The Last Jedi even managed to include some elements that shake up the series, but in the end it still led to everything in universe being at the position they where in the OT.
