I hadn't seen this since before Batman Begins came out, it's been so long. I didn't like it that much then but so many fans seem to love this film I gave it another try.
The problem I had with Penguin remains. I never thought the character menacing or interesting. Just kinda disgusting. And the penguins with the rockets? Nah.
Michelle Pfeiffer's better than I remembered. A lot better. She seemed to capture the essence of the character, immersed herself in the role and she is totally captivating. Christopher Walken was fine, as always. And Michael Keaton confirmed to me no one played Batman/Bruce Wayne better. A shame we didn't get a third with him. And with Pfeiffer's Catwoman. They had better chemistry than Keaton and Basinger in the first.
The production values in this film are incredible, well beyond what we saw in the first film. It's obvious they spared no expense.
The whole making the Penguin a mayoral candidate storyline could have worked if he didn't have green specks of blood shooting out of his mouth all the time. They needed to make him at least presentable in some way. That would have been better than the silly green-blooded bloated chalk-skinned psycho in the film. His back-up plans were silly, too.
So it's a better film than I remembered and I did enjoy it but I think the first Batman is still the best. I'll give this 8/10.

"Michelle Pfeiffer's better than I remembered. A lot better."
*Yeah that was my reaction when I revisited it. I suppose I saw it as stint casting back at the time but its good performance. I have yet to see The Dark Knight Rises but Hathaway's costume looked like shit and she doesn't seem the right type for the part.
The Bat costume looked better as well.
He was no longer that no neck dude they call Big B.
I like it better than the first.
In an interview for television, Stan Winston told a little anecdote about how his crew were collecting the mechanical penguins after a day's shoot, and found one of the live penguins snuggled up asleep against a mechanical one.

8/10. It has its issues, but I get a lot of enjoyment out of this movie.

7/10. In terms of design/costume/art direction, probably Burton's greatest moment. Pfeiffer and Walken are terrific in their roles, and Danny Devito as the Penguin was inspired casting. It's very silly at times however. After the darkness of Batman (1989), it almost seems like a fevered dream episode.
