I always thought Kryptonite was deadly due to it being irradiated in space on it's way to earth and the radiation's effect combined with the properties of the different colours of it is why they have different effects, and it's Kryptonians natural ability to absorb radiation as such their heightened ability to absorb the radiation from Kryptonite is why it effects them so severely as opposed to humans who need to be exposed to either a vast amount, concentrated forms or just for prolonged periods before it did anything.
Isn't that the other thing though Kryptonite does effect people, just not as evidently as it does humans, wouldn't dispersing Kryptonite in the atmosphere cause long term effects on humans?

It is supposed to be toxic to humans after prolonged exposure, which is how Lex lost his hand; at least pre-Flashpoint.
My preferred take on Kryptonite - and this is strictly fan wank territory - is that as part of their evolution, Kryptonian scientist discovered an element with immense energy absorption and redistribution properties, which they not only built into their the technology for its quantum properties, but eventually genetically engineered themselves to be infused with trace particles of this element - which I like to call Elisarium - into the cells of their bodies; facilitating greater connectivity to their technology. Kryptonian scientists experimented with Elisarium and discovered different isotopes of the element, each with different properties and appearance. The green isotope was the easiest to achieve, but it's quantum properties were highly unstable and less predictable than Elisarium; and as it turned out, the green isotope was radioactive and toxic. One quality of the radiation the green isotope emitted had a unique effect, in that, when placed in proximity to stable Elisarium, it could slowly transmute the Elisarium into the green isotope; and the more energy the green isotope was fed, the more efficient this process went. When the level of green isotope was reduced to a margin level and the remaining Elisarium was sufficiently charged with the right type of energy, the process could be reversed and the remaining traces of transmuted green isotope could be converted back into Elisarium.

Just a basic background - isotope: two or more forms of the same element that contain equal numbers of protons but different numbers of neutrons in their nuclei, and hence differ in relative atomic mass but not in chemical properties; in particular, a radioactive form of an element.
So isotopes are basically an element with different style haircuts at the atomic level; still essentially the same thing, but subtly different and with varying properties as a result. In this case it would be like humanity discovering a super-aluminum, that when you run a current through it or put it under the sun, does all sorts of crazy stuff that scientist could put to use; like building incredibly advanced computers or develop artificial gravity - so you put it in everything. But then you tinker with super-aluminum, giving the atoms a high-top fade or a perm or whatever, and suddenly it turns green and becomes radioactive. And while that radioactivity could be put to use, its usefulness is less reliable; and instead of consistently generating anti-gravity, people's hair starts falling out or growing bone spurs out of their face. And when you put it next regular super-aluminum, it starts turning into the green stuff.

I'm betting something came up and Melissa could only be on set for a limited amount of time for this particular week.
No idea what it could have been, but there is absolutely no reason for the suit, especially one that covers her face, unless they plan on using it later in the season to save on digital effects when Russian Kara shows up.

But that's the reason for the suit and the reason for the Sam Witwer focused episode last week, don't think they had to do much more to get around her schedule so it should be business as usual going forward.

It was the only thing I could think of, but it just seems weird that they let her take the gig if it meant time away from Supergirl.

It was the only thing I could think of, but it just seems weird that they let her take the gig if it meant time away from Supergirl. Could simply be CW being accommodating to their actor, they seem to like to work with their talent to keep them happy so long as it doesn't include massive pay raises, they cut back the episode order for Supernatural to give Jensen & Jared more down time, they gave Willa Holland a reduced schedule and role on Arrow for several seasons because she wanted it, same with with Darville on Legends and I think broadway is why they wrote Stein off of Legends and Garber out of his contract because he no longer wanted to do the show but go back to the stage and they agreed.
Plus how cheap The CW are they might just do this stuff to appease their stars to stick around even though the pay is considerably less than on most other networks.

Well, that was pointless. It's either to have given her more time for the play; or time off for the crossover... I agree. It was very pointless and they made it look like it was going to be something that would play a big part in at least a few episodes but now it has come and gone and we will most likely never see Kara wearing it again. I suppose we are own worst enemies in some ways 'cause we often take something like this and blow it up and think of all the different ways it could play into a season and what they could do with it without knowing it is just going to be a one or two episode thing they will disregard later. We do it with characters too and I blame the news sites 'cause they get us excited about things and they turn out to be a letdown. I mean just look at a character like Onyx. Some sites were falsely reporting she was going to be back for another episode and there was the talk of her changing sides and becoming a hero helping the Green Arrow 'cause that is what the character did in the comic books but she has never been seen again. I have to say the ideas you come up with on here are often more thought out than the show and the writers could learn some things from your posts.

The Sam Witwer focused episode was one of the best episodes of the series. That wasn't bad. Although I am still wondering just how they are going to make him a threat for Supergirl to face if it does come down to her facing Agent Liberty one on one 'cause he doesn't look like much of a physical threat like he was in 'Smallville' when he could transform into his Doomsday form and I think they will either have him get powers or he will get a far more powerful villain on his side to help him fight Supergirl.

They put the reveal of Kara in the suit in their comic con trailer - which in their defense was probably necessary, since they subsequently wouldn't have had any footage with Melissa, but they still sensationalized the reveal and made it look like it was more than it was. It certainly didn't help that it looked an awful lot like the "Masked Superman" character from the comics; which would naturally spark some speculation to that end of what it might mean. Likewise, I still fault the writers for using characters that have more extensive histories together that the writers tease, only for them to never get out of first gear. Whether that's Onyx, or Solomon Grundy or Oliver's relationship with the fucking Black Canary. It's one thing when their hands are tied, like with Deathstroke, but it's another when it's their own shortsightedness.

It's one thing when their hands are tied, like with Deathstroke, but it's another when it's their own shortsightedness. Good point. It is hard to get excited over things in the 'Arrowverse' shows when there have been so many disappointments and things a lot of fans are talking about and are looking forward to seeing in a new series turn out to be really small and are lucky to last one episode sometimes after months of websites building them up to be something more and they really dropped the ball with the Black Canary and there is no excuses for that and I am not sure why they thought introducing her with a history tied to Oliver that involved him cheating on her with her sister but I still believe things could have been better for the character if they had got rid of those ties and had her as a new vigilante that turned up in Star City around the same time Oliver become the Hood. Solomon Grundy might have had to do with the budget or the showrunners not wanting to go in too much of a Supernatural direction with a giant zombie but they made it look like he was going to return and fans were talking about it for years and years and it never happened. Onyx could still return at this point I suppose since she wasn't killed off but they should have brought her back by now.
I know you weren't a fan of the Huntress and the Hawks but I think Ragman and them should return and it annoys me that they aren't mentioned when they were such big parts of the seasons they were in.

I am surprised over how some people worship Zack Snyder and think he is some type of God when it comes to making superhero movies and I come across something on the internet earlier today that said Zack was ahead of his time and was underappreciated and one day people will look back and see what a genius he was and I think some people are deluded but I suppose it is their opinion to have. As a longtime DC reader I found the majority of his movies disappointing and I think he should go back to making more movies like the remake of 'Dawn of the Dead.' Superheroes just really aren't his genre in my opinion.

I think the problem with Zack is he has the good big ideas, and he has great visuals but he doesn't know just how to piece it all together, you tweak a handful of scenes in the movie just a bit and I think MOS is an amazing film, things like letting the kdis dorwn thing, that should have not been said out loud but said with a look, just for a moment then Jonathan affirms Clark did the right thing, you show him as a father however think "maybe you should have" but know he cannot tell his son than and it's wrong to think so, Jonathan in Smallville did this so well, the conflict between the good man and the protective father and what a struggle it was at times for him to know how to be both especially with Clark as his son.
The 1% chance scene in BVS was the same way, Bruce clearly is talking about killing Superman in that scene, he should have been talking about being prepared to kill him, that's Batman, if there is a 1% chance Superman goes bad then they need to be able to kill him, but to kill him just on a chance, that's not Batman.
It's amazing how many things fall apart when you are off or wrong due to a simple mistake or small amount, or how important a seemingly insignificant thing can truly be.

I agree. I don't think Zack is horrible with movies like some people have been writing since 'Man of Steel' came out and I really liked his remake of 'Dawn of the Dead' with Sarah Polley as I mentioned above and think it is one of the best Horror remakes of all time and is as good as the original which is rare with Horror remakes and many of them have been very disappointing. I just think Zack Snyrder wasn't the right person to handle Superman and can understand a lot of fans were annoyed over him making the character dark and brooding. Even Dean Cain took shots to that and said Superman was supposed to be a symbol of hope that inspired people to do good things and it was like he took the dark tone from a lot of the 'Supergirl/Kara Zor-El' comic books of of the 00s and 10s but instead of keeping her edgy and aggressive attitude they made Clark more brooding like Batman. I wasn't a fan with what they did with Jonathan Kent either and thought they should have made him more like he was in 'Smallville' and 'Lois and Clark' 'cause looking at them it was Jonathan that was and Martha that were one of the main reasons Clark grew up to become a hero and not just Jor-El 'cause of the way they raised him and they made a point of that in the first season of 'Smallville' when Clark had his powers transferred to somebody else who abused them.
Jonathan was played out to be Clark's idol in many ways and a good person but we didn't see that in 'Man of Steel.'

Zack Snyder isn't a bad director but he does not understand Superman at all.
