The first three seasons are often times very funny. The episode where the Ropers think Chrissy is pregnant is hilarious. The other seasons aren't bad but not as fresh or original.
I think the Chrissy character started out better as a slightly dim girl than she ended as an almost total airhead. The replacements for Chrissy were ok.
The Ropers often stole the scenes, reminding me a lot of an older version of Al and Peg Bundy. Then Mr. Furley came along and he was good, too. But not as good.
I liked Janet throughout. In fact, I found her more attractive than Chrissy, though she was rarely treated as such.
And the real star of the show was definitely John Ritter, instantly likeable and delivered some inspired physical comedy.
Overall a 7/10.
And I liked the Larry character, too.

I agree with most of what you said. The first two and a half seasons, with the Ropers, were very, very entertaining (Helen Roper was my favorite character from the entire series. She seemed like she'd be sooooo much fun to hang out with.) And Chrissie, like you said, started out as just slightly dim and sometimes actually rather intelligent. By the time Suzanne Somers had reached her final season on the show, Chrissie Snow practically screamed "WIPE MY ASS! I'M SO DUMB!" Also, Somers looked so much more attractive when she went around with a moderate amount of makeup, rather than the stoned platinum barbie doll she became. I liked her character all the way through, but definitely preferred her towards the beginning. She was pretty darn cool those first couple of years. And I thought Cindy was likeable enough, but Jenilee Harrison just did not have a strong enough presence to fill the shoes of SS. Priscilla Barnes fared better. I grew to become more and more fond of Janet as I got older, and now when I watch the show (which is actually fairly often), I find Janet to be very appealing, intelligent and not at all unsexy. I like her bunches. John Ritter was a natural physical comedian and I liked Jack pretty well, though actually not quite as much as Chrissie or Janet. He was definitely his most likeable and cutest at the very beginning of the show, like the first 12 episodes. I liked shaggy, hippie Jack over preppy Jack. Don Knotts truly was the death knell of the show. My God, he overdid it. I really could not stand Mr. Furley. So, the show started out as an 8 or 9, and ended up about a 2 or 3.

Completely agree about Chrissy and how she changed her looks, too. I don't know why they decided to go to in that direction. I like early Chrissy. By the time she left, I was honestly sick of her.
I liked Furley. He was not as good, or as funny, as the Ropers, though. They took a lot of the funny out of the show when they left.
I should have mentioned the show had two spinoffs. The Ropers and Three's a Crowd. I have seen very little of each and neither were very good. I hope to find them on dvd, too, if the price is right, so I can watch them all.

I watched it through its entire run. The Ropers were great, but you got to hand it to Don Knotts who came in and somehow made suggestive comedy palatable to the Andy Griffith crowd. As far as Suzanne Somer's replacements, I thought the Cindy Snow character was terrible, but I loved Priscilla Barnes as Terri. But my favorites were always pretty much Jack Ritter and Joyce DeWitt. Clearly not an intellectual show, and it relied too much on the concept of characters misunderstanding each other with wacky results, but fun for its time. 7/10.

8/10 great with flaws. I actually appreciate how well it landed with so many key cast changes, they all pretty much worked well except for Cindy.

Absolutely horrible, and an incredible waste of John Ritter's talents. 1/10

Mr. Dirty, did you see any episodes of the English version, which spawned this US version Man About The House?
Mr Toasty, no, I have not seen any of the episodes of "Man About The House" and I would tend to bet that I am missing something here. I bet it's up on Youtube, I should check a few out. I'm assuming you have seen of the episodes of this show. Is the basic premise the same, with a few minor changes here or there. Wait a minute! Was the landlady kind of this loud, chubby woman? I've also never seen "Steptoe and Son", the English version of "Sanford and Son", which I love, mostly because of Redd Foxx's easy presence as the star of the show. But I', sure there are episodes of that show that would be pretty easy to find.

I could never stay awake through an episode. Couldn't relate to characters or stories. 2/10. Not the worst, but pretty bad.

I preferred Janet as well. I seem to never find the supposed "Hot chick" as attractive as I am meant to. Earlier today I saw the thread on Charlies Angels and realized that Farrah was in last place on the hotness scale compared to the other Angels. The show wouldn't have lasted as long without Ritter. He is perfect for the role. And if I were to be critical, the show could be kind of nowhere at times plot wise like a lot of sitcoms of the time. So you really want someone who can draw you in. I was a bit surprised when they remade The Odd Couple as I thought it wasn't really a big deal topic anymore of two divorced men living together. I hope they don't remake this one as I don't feel the topic is a big deal anymore and I don't think they would be able to make it work. 7/10

I think Ritter was the show. You take him out and the show doesn't last. I don't think that could be said of anyone else.
Ritter had another show after this called Hooperman, where he plays a cop. I've seen it for sale on Amazon but I've never seen the show, though it is kinda hard to picture him as a cop.
I kinda doubt they would remake this show, as it was. Not unless they find ways to make it more risque to the modern audience. I have no idea if they did that with The Odd Couple. And they would have to find someone as funny, charismatic as John Ritter.
I haven't seen the spinoff from Three's Company where Jack marries the new girl, I forget her name. She was attractive and nice but that all seemed so contrived and rushed. It would have made more sense to have Jack marry Janet and start a new series with them in a new location. I think that would have been a much better ending, too, if that was going to be it for the series.

I rated Jaclyn 1, I think she was the highest rank from memory of the poll. It would have been easy to replace the other characters on the show and except for Janet they did replace all of them from memory. I recall watching some of Hooperman way back when I was a kid. Being in Australia we got these shows at weird times and I think quite regularly they didn't even show full seasons. He does well playing a cop because he doesn't try and be Dirty Harry or anyone gung ho. You can find some clips of it on Youtube if you want to check it out www.youtube.com/watch?v=t6cIpvw1uuwThree's A Crowd only lasted a season. I think by then the idea had it's run. Three's Company of course was an Americanized version of the English show "Man About The House" which is very good and has two great looking women in it. They did a spin off that show called "Robin's Nest" where the male lead gets married. So I think America just followed suit and tried it themselves with Three's A Crowd.
