…with this guy Jordan Peele as host/narrator/producer/Serling. (I admit I’ve never heard of Peele.) It’s…worrisome, to say the least. Especially because the last TV show with the title The Twilight Zone, the one with Forest Whitaker, was absolute dreck. On the other hand, if they hire all of us here to write for it, I’ll be open to it!

IMPO - I never really had a big problem with the TZ Reboots
only because they were so completely
different in storyline formula and structure etc. as is .
Also with very short on air time too -
only lasting about one season apiece
and it most definitely could never
supersede the unique quality
of the original Twilight Zone
or it's fine legendary host Rod Serling either .
However I agree with you here Salzmank if you
and the good folks on that thread
write the new episodes for this current reboot I still would definitely watch it too .
My only one complaint is that Twilight Zone
is NEVER made into a Broadway Musical - EVER
( IMPO - YIKES ! It's just too freaky and way out of place
to do that to a fine show like this ! ) !!
Don't get me wrong I love musicals
but this fine show was never born
to be a musical from the start .
Thanks so much Salzmank for your subject post .

Yea, they do end up being different than the original. Nothing can replace the original. But I will say I thoroughly enjoyed the Twilight Zone movie from the mid 80s with Dan Akroyd and Jon Lithgow. Even with a different narrator I think it had an aggressive edge and complimented the original series very well.

Even with a different narrator I think it had an aggressive edge and complimented the original series very well. I like that one too, though—like all of the remakes/reboots/whatever you want to call them—it doesn’t really even attempt the tone or style of the original. The closest segment is probably the one with Vic Morrow as the bigot (which, of course, ended up in that horrendous accident in real life). The remake of “It’s a Good Life” has hardly anything to do with The Twilight Zone, but it absolutely freaked me out when I saw it as a kid. And my favorite segment is the wraparound with Albert Brooks and Dan Aykroyd, which is a lot of fun even if not very TZ-esque. The Twilight Zone had this unusual combination of pulpy science-fiction (“shaggy God stories” abound), b-horror-movie, ghost story, liberal social allegory, and (curiously Harburgian) charm and whimsy that made and make it so very appealing; one can only describe the mix as uniquely Serlingesque (and it pops up again, aptly, for Planet of the Apes). As marianne48 has noted around these parts, it’s a grab-bag, and you never know quite what you’re going to get with it. Both the entertaining ’80s and the dreadful ’00s “reboots,” respectively, turned the show into pure horror—even the aliens and other sci-fi staples served horror—which misses the point entirely. There were horror episodes—I’ve got one, “The Hitch-Hiker,” on right now as part of the Sci-Fi channel TZ marathon—but they’re only a part of what makes the show click, not the be all and end all. Anyway. I’d love it if this new program brings back that mix, or at the very least attempts it—but I admit I’m not holding out hope. By the way, Happy New Year, fellow Twilight Zone fans!

Truly see, 'Get Out.' As a TZ fan I appreciate the message that went along with the horror and otherworldly elements. It's worth a good two viewings minimum!
