Do expect it to get worse? Better with time?

Do expect it to get worse? Better with time? That's a fantastic question I've never considered before this instant. Um, if I had to guess: off the top of my head: better, if for no other reason than the moves Disney's made are guaranteed to (a) be divisive and therefore drive away a certain percentage of people while concurrently (b) inculcating new fans whose first/primary exposure to a galaxy far, far away will be via the Disney movies; so ultimately you'll be left with the people willing to pay to see movies starring Rey, Finn, and Poe regardless, and those people will probably enjoy those movies, thus deflating and defusing a lot of attention. The elephant in the room will be whether the fandom can come to terms with the prequels, whether that's a byproduct of a generation of fans who grew up with them reaching a certain level of maturity or level of distinction within the fandom, and sort of heal that initial schism from whence all future sects splintered. But that's doubtful at best. Edit: In sum: generally, yes, but deep divisions and -- excuse me -- "rogue" offshoots of SW fandom will always exist going forward, whether that's EU, prequels, OT purists, etc.

Yes, I believe so. However, I would say everyone for the most part has - not just Star Wars fans.
Have you ever heard/seen the hippie musical, Hair? It's made famous for its songs and for one scene where it features the entire cast nude on stage...anyway, it has a song called "Aquarius." The song is about The Age of Aquarius, which brings enlightenment, a strong sense of social justice, and a search for understanding from others/the world we're in.
Some argue we haven't officially entered that astrological age, while others insist we have. Either way, the effects of it are being felt. I believe this is what influences people becoming more political in different ways than in the past. The world around us impacts us from weather to gravity. Some scoff at the idea of astrological influences, but if stuff they immediately can feel impacts them, you would think they would acknowledge from beyond our small world.

Press driven or people driven? Both. If the press would stop the people would also?

If the press would stop the people would also? Are you writing an article or performing some sort of undercover interview? Because your questions do seem a bit odd

If the press would stop the people would also? I don't think so, no. It is to embedded into certain people at this point. People aren't doing anything because the media is telling them to. If anything, people have become paranoid of any and all "sources", authority, etc.

Would those certain people even have a platform without the press cheering them on? There seems to be a paranoia that has developed among people about the media. The media only goes after what viewers/listeners want to know about. If there's an issue with what ends up on the news, blame the people watching the televisions and listening to the radio.

There's a paranoia about anything that is either in charge or at the top of its respective industry. It's why Trump and Bernie made it so far in the election. People don't care about anything other than someone being anti–authority/establishment.

And completely ignores stuff that upsets it's bias, like Kaepernick saying he wants Hillary in prison. All the sweet clicks they missed out on... It's like to completely independent thoughts thrown together in one sentence.
