Rented this on Redbox and finally seen it for the first time. I think this movie flopped not because it was released so soon after TLJ. But because it was released so soon after TLJ backlash. The way this movie was made was to be very identifiable with the veteran fanbase. It should've gotten a lot of box office support from them. But it didn't. And that likely was because of TLJ backlash more than any other reason.
I think if TLJ had been a markedly better movie in some key areas, Solo might've made Mission Impossible: Fallout money. Jar Jar Abrams screwed over Rian Johnson. And Rian Johnson's actions screwed over Ron Howard.

Generally I agree with you. I wrote a detailed breakdown of the reasons "Solo" failed back when the movie was released. So quoting my earlier post: - Fans did not like Kathleen Kennedy's and Rian Johnson's approach to the franchise, which disrespected both the OT characters and fans of the OT.
- Lucasfilm refused to acknowledge any criticism, no matter how valid, and instead responded by attacking their customers.
- The reviews were lukewarm. At this writing, the All Critics Score at Rotten Tomatoes is 70%, the Audience Score is 62%, and the Top Critics Score is a rotten 59%.
- Competition. Given #1-3 above, why see "Solo" when you could see the certified fresh "Avengers: Infinity War" or "Deadpool 2"? I saw "Deadpool 2" on Friday and had a great time.
- Poor Marketing. The trailers and ads did not make "Solo" look like a must see movie.
"Star Wars fatigue" is a myth. The five month gap between "The Last Jedi" and "Solo" was somehow too short to sustain fan interest? Ridiculous. What about the two month gap between "Black Panther" and "Infinity War"? In fact, "Black Panther" even got an "Infinity War" bump as Marvel fans turned them into a double feature.

First time JJ Abrams has to finish what he began. He claims he is not afraid. He will be. He will be.

One couple looked in their 30s. It was easily the most appreciative audience-laughed where appropriate, clapped st the end. I have the steelbook

Bummer it's so underlit you do not see properly sans Act 3.
Bummer Kessel and the Kessel-run are so unimaginatively-industial-rehashy, these should be the movie's highlights, not just let's-get-it-over-with fan service.
Bummer about the silly she-droid and about robosexual, Lando Cape-rissian.
Still more bearable than the Disney saga movies.
6.5/10

The trailers were too cringe-worthy for me to get interested. The spoiler reviews told me I made the right decision. Actually more fun watching people talk about the crapfest at this point than it is to watch the movies.

I had no problem with lighting at the theaters I saw it in. I understand there was some ussue with some theaters meaning it was the problem of the theater, not the film. Yes, I saw it in an AMC dolby theater that apparently enhances the video, but I also saw it in 2 other theaters. Kessel was worked in well. I had no problem with that. I did find the robot romance strange. I wonder if that was Howard or if it remained from the original director team. It did lead to why the Falcon is an amazing ship & the line about the computer being rude.

nope it's the film that is underlit, on BR it's the same. No idea how that happened. neither, it was Joh Kasdans idea and writing. Yes, very weird to make Lando robosexual. Could you imagine that, I cant. The computer was not rude, it just used a peculiar dialect, which the robosexual Shebot never did .

nope it's the film that is underlit, on BR it's the same. No idea how that happened. So the 3 theaters I saw it in compensated somehow? Actually... When we first moved to San Diego, my husband fell in with...some unsavory types. One was an attorney who once said to me he didn't think sex with a child would be bad as long as the child consented. A sleazy lawyer in every sense. So, yeah, if that is what they were going for. Actually, in a certain forward-minded thought, in a world of vibrators on the brink of robots where we are seeing a certain effort made to create robots for sex, yeah, it works. We saw the replicants in Blade Runner had a sex doll line. Cherry 2000 Chobits Saber Marionette The idea of sex droids likely should have been more obvious in the SW universe long ago. It takes consent out of the picture, but Solo also addressed the "we don't serve their type" also. Droids as slaves vs free will. Visited in Chobits. And Astroboy screenrant.com/solo-movie-millennium-falcon-computerSo, yeah. Not quite.
